Which Rolex next to my Diver?
Hi
I'm on the edge of selling my PAM292 and buying a Rolex. I have a PAM111 and an AP Diver. Now I keep being attracted to Rolex and I consider the DSSD. Would this be a good addition to my collection or which model would you suggest? Thanks |

You are keeping the AP Diver, so why have two dive watches? Try an Explorer I; it is versatile, durable and discreet. And at 39mm will wear as large as necessary.

DSSD is the biggest and baddest. If that is your goal then that will do. There is the non ceramics (both with and without date), non date ceramic, sub date ceramic, and now the ceramic seadweller all of which are smaller and might be more comfortable. Also deciding whether or not you want holes in the lugs will affect your decision. Perhaps saying what you want the watch for will help better define the answer your are given. For me I tend to like the more vintage watches in general because of the ease of modification for my uses.

LOL! I read the title of this thread quickly and thought it said, "Rolex for my driver". All I could think was, "I need to get into the chauffeur business"

To buck the DSSD trend, maybe a YMII?

DSSD and Diver cover the same ground, how about the DJ2 for a dressier option?

If your putting together a collection of divers the DSSD is a cornerstone.

Yes, I assume a 44mm Pilot watch would be an option too, but I just feel a need to get a Rolex. To be honest I don't really like the DJ2, not at my age yet. How does the DSSD compare to a 111? I have found several threads regarding the Diver vs DSSD but not vs a PAM111

You need to go try it on!!! No way around this, the DSSD is maybe the most technologically advanced watch Rolex makes and it's stunning but it's also one of the toughest watches to wear daily because of it's size and weight. That is my opinion and in order for you to make an informed decision you need to find out if you agree with me or with the others who curl it every day!!

Maybe I read over it, but I haven't seen anything talking about pricing. I was merely keeping the large watch theme going

I am not trying to talk you out of it, b/c it is an awesome watch, here are just a few things to think about. For an everyday watch.....you will bump it into everything. The 44 or 43mm case is not an issue, at a glace it doesn't look much different than Sub or GMT etc...b/c the dial size is about the same. BUT the 18mm height is the reason I sold mine. I would love to have another one, but not for everyday. I would wear it on W/E in more of a rotation, but wearing it everyday I bumped it all the time(it never did any damage). I was just annoyed bumping into everything. On that note....I rarely bump any of my watches in the last 15 years, but that watch really sits high off the wrist. The only other complaint I had with that watch was that the bezel moves too easily, reaching into your pocket if your arm touches the side of your body it moves that easy. Other than the height and bezel....I miss that one and if the funds are there to own multiple watches again...I would get another |

Very wise! It's easier to live without a PAM than it is a rolex. IMHO DSSD is not a bad idea.

The DSSD represents the ultimate in the Rolex diving relam. Does that mean it's the best for everyday wear? Lots of debate on that, but as a collection of divers it's the most extreme Rolex offers.
