pre owned sub: AD or independent watchmaker?

I am in the market for a used Submariner. I found a local watchmaker (non AD) with a 14060 with box and papers. I also contacted the local AD and they would locate one for me. Its very possible these people do business with each other and buying through the AD would result in a markup, which i am hoping would just be a 10% finders fee. 100% original/authentic is important to me. Would the AD authenticate? Anyone do this before? Is the authorized dealer some sort of sacred bond that makes them beyond reproach... Clearly I have trust issues. Please help!

There are many used Submariners here in the for sale section by trusted sellers. This might be the best way to go if you don't mind purchasing online.

If you can afford it, and are a bit nervous (completely understandable), I would pay the premium and buy from an AD. Sometimes the security and personal service, bracelet adjustments, are worth the extra money.

But if you are hard up for money, I would buy from this site's Trusted Sellers.

Sounds to me like your only choice would be through an AD...now once you become less paranoid and learn about the trusted Gray Market Dealers here...they will be able to get you what you want and save yourself some cash as well!!!

Btw.....Welcome to TRF
