What makes you say that? Granted, on a brand dedicated forum like TRF, the majority of flux is going to be directed at the object brand, but there are plenty of PAM admirers/owners/collectors here too.

Yes, I talked to three different ADs during the last week as I'm hunting my next piece, and they all say that Panerai sales is slowing down. But also that Panerai owners are dedicated and normally only look at Panerai models.

I'm still pretty smitten with Panerai personally. I plan on adding one some time this year.

I think so... speaking of person experience. Somehow I feel that they have lost me with their now boring and repetitive designs, bad reputation when it comes to servicing watches, and the way they handle the distribution of limited edition pieces.

Limited edition pieces are only fun if you do them once in a blue moon, the way e.g. Panerai and Audemers Piguet keep doing LE's just drives me bonkers.

Not for me. Still a regular in the rotation. I'm just annoyed that I can't get a 382 or 507 at MSRP.

So I guess if you ask this same question over there, you will probably get a more in depth response.

I never liked them in the first place...but yes I personally think the bloom is off the rose for the general populous but the dedicated fans are still loyal from what I've seen.

And what do you think of Hublot's LEs? ... EVERY watch is a LE!

I'd rather go without a watch than wear any Hublot. Ever.

In terms of interest, it's quality vs. quantity.
Take the subset of Rolex owners that are into vintage pieces and the history behind the brand, compared to the set of all Rolex owners; Do the same with Panerai and the ratio is quite different: Rolex: 1\1000? Panerai 1\5? We don't need the extra traffic - just good quality conversations Quote:

Brian, can you recommend a brand that has a more reasonable policy for the distribution of SE/LEs?

Sometimes i love em & sometimes not so much but their originality & uniqueness clearly set them apart from the competition, of this there can be no denying.
They somehow seem to stir my passion from dormancy with such little effort it surprises me every time. I find that the things i thought were originally desirable in the brand are now completely opposite and i have done this several times, yet each time i am certain i have nailed them down. Imho there will always be a place for panerai, their style is undeniable, those dials are like no other and strap changing is just darn enjoyable! I wont say they are my favorite, but sometimes, they are!

Well it has for me...I bought a titanium Pam and simply have to say it was the worst watch I ever had. Uncomfortable , vibrated , hands corroded after 2 years & went back to Panerai SFO and they sent back twice to their SC to resolve . Then went back again because reserve was non existent for service , still reserve was crap , OEM leather straps overpriced and not very good , ruined all my shirt cuffs. Apart from all this it was great. Never again.

I just bought my first and couldn't be happier. You get watches for yourself, not others, not a forum.

well industry wise pam is a loser. look at rolex coming out with bicolor ceramic. omega comes out with antimagnetic.
panerai is eating dust. there are just a lot more choices out there. from what i obeserve right now the fashionistas are the ones into this brand. and i am no fashionista. im moving on right now. |

I sold one of my two PAMs (kept the 372) but I'm still very much a fan...I would love to get a Radiomir in the future. I'm not sure lack of action on this forum equates to lack of popularity...

One Panny
Only have one Panerai, a Pam 88, for a reason. It is what I call my occasional watch. Never gets much wrist time but whenever I wear it, it always feels good on my wrist and always gets attention. Great fit, too. Not my favorite 44mm, DSSD has that spot. But I still it a lot because the Pam 88 is not ungorgeous, but rather a ruggedly handsome time piece that can be worn with a suit or jeans and t-shirt.
Still have my eye on a Pam 392 or a 42mm Radiomir. First I must have a auto Speedy co-axial in the collection. |

Too bad for your experience, which you've repeated a few times here. Just to say, the "vibration" is actually a characteristic of that classic movement (the wobble) that you probably had based on your description, which either one likes or one doesn't, and your corrosion was probably due to you letting water get into the watch. And for every 100 acceptable service experiences, there's always one that slips through the cracks for any brand, and it's that one that inevitably gets talked about on the Internet. Anyway, Panerai isn't for everyone. Good thing there are lots of great choices. |

That's the beauty of being different, our taste will vary from watch to watch. Food for thought! It's the 1970's, Just imagine the same question posted like this instead: "Seems like interest in the Mechanical watch has virtually fallen off the cliff around the watch industry........has the Mechanical watch lost its luster????????" To most people that were jumping on the Quartz movement bandwagon , they would have said yes without a doubt. But to those that love Haute Horlogerie and really enjoyed the craftsmanship of the Mechanical watch, the would say no way. I feel like, that's what you get with Panerai, loyal followers of the brand. So you will always have those that love it and understand what they produce and those that hate it.

Can't pin point it, but I loved them a few years ago, and now I appreciate them, but probably won't buy anymore (famous last words). I love big(ger) watches, so it's not that aspect. I think with my flipping, the hit on the back end was becoming too much--not holding value.
Anyways, as I said, I appreciate them, and still comment on them if I see on in the wild. |

The good news is, buying the cheapest luminor you can get your hands on can give you the full panerai experience, along with all their strap changing nirvana:)

1 PAM is good for me. I enjoy it immensely, but it will be the sole Panerai in my collection.
