Thinking about a Preik caseback for my Daytona

Hi all. As some of you may have read I recently acquired a brand new 116520 Daytona here in Guam. I'm thinking about ordering a Thomas Preik Sapphire display back for it amongst a few other things and was wondering if anyone could share their opinions or reviews of his product with me.

Thanks in advance, Joe.

I would pass because 1) It's not original and 2) Rolex movements aren't much to look at.

That's how I feel but I think the Daytona movement with the red letters on the rotor is somewhat of an exception.

I think that Preik makes one of the best sapphire backs on the market.. It can be installed and removed with a Rolex case back tool..

We reviewed it here..

I kind of like this idea. As a fan of Rolex I would never mind viewing the inner workings of a Rolex I own.

I'm getting one as soon as my warrantee is over. Observation backs work better with straps that buckle, so you can see the back easier, but the clasp of a rolex will extend enough to give you a nice view of the Soul of your Machine.

Maybe I should order one now, before Apple drives the price of artificial sapphire up when they use it for their touch screens on iPhone6's.

You do not need to wait until your warrantee is over. If for some reason your watch needs to go back for service, just put the original back case on before it's shipped or dropped off.

Not impossible but I'd be surprised if the iphone 6 will have a sapphire screen; the cost would be way more than the current phone.

More likely they're buying all that sapphire glass for the iwatch.

Be careful, an acquaintance got one for his GMT....took it to my watchmaker (who's very good).....the watchmaker couldn't get it to fit...& it was made for GMT.

They make several different case backs for the GMT, as well other models.

Your acquaintance may of had the wrong GMT one for his specific model.

He did tell TP the model #, etc......it could've been a mistake on part of the mfr., regardless he sent it back for a refund.

I love sapphire casebacks. Got one of two of mine. They have the same water resistance as the original so why not do it? Everyone likes looking under the hood of a fine sports car. Sapphire casebacks remind me of the same and though Rolex movements aren't the "prettiest" to some I think they are just fine.

I was considering that too and my Wife asked "If you're wearing your watch, how can you stare thru it? and if you're not wearing your watch, then what are you doing staring at it?" lol

I just ordered one for a vintage 1675 which I don't plan to take in any water (just in case), the movement is half of the fun!

I think they look great even if the movement is not decorated. I really don't see a downside.
