Another Day-Date Dial Question
So I have been obsessing over a 1974(birth year) Rolex Day-Date for sometime now. The problem I run into is not knowing if the dial and hands are original or if they have been repainted or replaced. Below is a pic from a place in Atlanta, GA that has one for sale. I would love to buy one from a trusted seller on TRF but by it being such a specific request I haven't been able to find anyone on here with one. Below is a pic I captured from their web page. Just want to see if anyone can tell if this is an original or redone dial. Thanks in advance.

is this the only pic, it looks a touch blurred, if it is a true clear shot, the font is too thick for a start where is the rest of the the X ?, the other problem is day date dials with a dash between oyster and perpetual are only found on models approx 1960-1965 and not every dial, i may add of this period, only one of the dial makers did this. i presume this watch is a 1974, so the dial cannot be completely ruled out as fake due to the low grade photo provided, but did not originally come with this watch cheers

Here are a few more pics. I didn't know that about the Day-Date if it's written like that. And yes the "X" in Rolex looks like it is missing part of it.

hi, after looking at better clearer pics, both dials are original, it just depends if you also want period correct, depends how picky you are, do you care that the dial did not originally come on that watch. cheers:

I'd call the shop and talk directly with Jake. Ask if the dial is original to that Day-Date and if he'd stand behind it if RSC determines it isn't. Also ask if the crystal is genuine or aftermarket. While the watch serial number comports with 1974, the dial appears newer but an earlier owner changing dials is not unheard of. The missing serif on the X is worth mentioning if you decide to buy it. Maybe he'll agree to swap the dial for you as part of the deal.

In the first pics there seems to be a rub mark above saturday. In the pic of just the dial, it's gone and rolex has no rub mark in the x. Maybe that is a picture of the dial before and after a refinish.
