The UAE gave my dad a air king with there symbol in it. My dad told me there are only four like his. Has anyone seen this watch before?

Thanks; Like I said before, it was a gift to my dad from United Arib Emirates after the gulf war. My dad was special forces for 22 years and this was circa 1989-1993... Just wondered if any other military people got a watch like this? My dad said him and three other got the watch. I think it's very rare, I just want some feedback who knows old military watches or anything about this perhaps?
thanks again!

If you look at the serial number, that watch is a bit older. It's late 70's. Very nice Air King you have there . They are not that rare (way more than 4 were made ) , as loose UAE dials can be found from time to time. Now, if you have a complete set, box, paper (indicating it was sold in the UAE), that's rare...

Here's one of my UAE watches:

Thank you for the info man. That's what I had figured as well about the UAE dial. What UAE dial is yours own? Yes, my dad got in Dubai. He is trying to find the papers, but he said he found the place in Dubai where he got and is going to give them the serial number to get a new certificate. Pretty cool gift though. They gave 4 of these to my dad and three other special ops personal.

Here's one of my UAE watches:

He got the watch in Dubai and found the store online where it was bought. Of course, over the past couple decades my dad lost the paper work for it but I want to get it all together. Hopefully, I'll be able to find it. But, like I said, the guy who gave my dad and the other three guys the watch said it would be the only air king with the UAE symbol on it. So it could be rare or not? I'm not sure, I dont know too much, about Rolexs yet, but very excited to start my collection.

Thanks!

The UAE AKs aren't very rare. I've seen probably 10+. There are far more than just 4. To you it's priceless, but on the market they don't command a premium over the standard dial.

of course, I figured there are many more than four UAE aks, but I was just going by what my dad said. It's from dubai and you are right, it is priceless to me. I have to get the spring changed out on it though, because when my dad was changing the time, some how messed it up lol..anyone know the costs of that type of repair?

Although I had left Special Forces before the Gulf War, most of my buds were still there. I have not heard of any of them receiving any watches from UAE. They were all on ODAs (A Teams) and had little exposure to the host countries forces, being mostly utilized in direct action or reconnaissance roles. Your dad was probably with a command and control or liaison element for one of the SOTFs and thus, was known to the host country armed forces. In that capacity, you do see them give watches, etc. to people like your dad in appreciation for a job well done. It's a great souvenir and you should treasure it always!

Appears to be a very very late 5500. Probably one of the last made

Yeah, he was pretty high ranked in special forces; I'll talk to him and find out but he was all over the Middle East before the gulf broke out, I do know that. But most definently something I'll treasure forever. Well my dad said it was him and three others got the same watch as a gift in Dubai. What does sotfs mean? Sorry, I don't know too much military talk.. Should I leave it how it is stock or do any upgrades or change the look and keep the UAE emblem.

Here's another pic of it. How much do you think it will be to re crystallize it? And put a new spring to adjust the time.

One more lol I love it! Proud of my dad. Retired special forces 22 years. Desert storm and did a lot of work in Africa but the gifts weren't quite as cool as this watch.

Call some of our watchmakers here and find one you like. A service will cost $500+ and since it seems you may need parts, $700 might be more accurate. Expect around a 6 week wait until you get it back.

Wow! Ok that's good to know. Also, while working today, I lost the crown to it. That part was already broken from my dad but the crown came unscrewed and of course I couldn't find it. It wasn't a special one that the rolex emblem. Any idea where I could just get another crown that would fit it?

I'm gonna level with you. What you have is a nice watch but a broken watch. Go get it fixed professionally. Either send it to our own Vanessa or Rik.
