Went to an AD today

Hey guys, went to an AD today just browsing around in search of my next piece. Tried the black bay and pelagos, but not sure if I could go from Rolex (currently only have a sub c) to Tudor, I know they are very high quality and still very good but they are just not a Rolex however you want to look at it. So if some of you guys have both please share your opinions of how you feel going back and forth from Tudor to Rolex and how they compare! Thanks in advance!!

Great question. I was going to start a thread asking the same thing. What is the difference between Tudor and Rolex? Some members call their Tudors Rolexes. Is that accurate?

Tudor was founded by Hans, the same as Rolex and I'm pretty sure had Rolex movements and cases but not anymore.

I think these are totally different in and of themselves. Rolex has a additional quality in the fit and finish that Tudor doesn't Just comparing bracelets between Sub and Pelagos for example. Another thing is the movement...a lot of difference there. The main difference to me is what you get for the price. Tudor is very respectable for the price it is. Others may have changing opinions.

I don't see a problem owning both. I'm thinking about getting a blue black bay.

Many many threads on this topic. Pages and pages, do a search.

Tudors are great quality, offer some very cool models and are one of the best bang for your buck watches out there. Also not as common as rolex and some enjoy that also.

A true wis will dabble in many brands

I recently purchased a Tudor Pelagos and as someone that also owns multiple Rolex including a WG Submariner, I absolutely love my new Tudor and the Titanium makes the watch the most comfortable large diver I have ever worn in warm weather.

In addition, I really like the fact that Tudor takes chances that Rolex is unwilling to take with their "flagship" brand. In fact, there are quite a few things that I like better about my new Pelagos than I do about my Submariner. To name a few...

1) the 60 click bezel with extra stiff detent at 12 o'clock so that the bezel can be centered by feel;
2) the use of lume in the bezel insert (not just on the dial);
3) the use of high-tech materials (Titanium) for both case and bracelet;
4) the angled chapter ring that places the second indices above the dial, when combined with the non-surrounded markers and matte dial, makes it the most legible watch in my entire collection;
5) the entirely brushed finish (even case sides and chamfers) that give the watch a very stealthy/tool appearance.

I could go on and on, but I think I have made my point. When you factor in all that Tudor has to offer with its new releases, I think it is one of the best values ($ for $) in all of horology.

I absolutely love switching back and forth between Rolex and Tudor and I don't feel at all like I am "stepping down" or wearing a "lesser" watch. It is a different watch and for certain purposes (hard use) it is actually a "better" watch.

I highly recommend it!

I know several true watch enthusiasts that are strictly dedicated to one brand, and I also know many who have pieces from many brands. A wis's taste is all based on opinion

It is my understanding that Tudor has never used Rolex movements, but they are heavily modified to Rolex standards, nonetheless.

Currently, they use ETA ebauches, if I understand correctly.

ETA only supplies movements to the few companies they still do businesses with outside of the Swatch Group, however, their relationship with Rolex has been so long standing and of benefit to both companies that they still sell ebauches to Rolex so that they can be modified.
