Lume query
Hi Team,
Got a Lume question/ mystery. And I will preface that what I found wasn't a problem so much as a 'Hmmm?' moment. A quick search on TRF revealed nothing pertaining to it; I'm just curious.... Below is a lume shot of my Explorer II 16570 Polar. I charged it up with a UV flashlight and took a pic. Below each of the hands is a glow indicative of each hand. While that glow-below fades quickly it made me curious so I took another shot with the UV light still on; In this pic you can see the bright glow-below the hands quite clearly and even some reflection from the indices. So my query is: whats causing this glow under the hands? I also have a Steinhart OVM with a black dial and for comparison charged that piece and took a pic. I know the OVM has anti reflective coating inside and out, and perhaps the black dial vs the white of the rolex is also a factor. I initially presumed it was a inside reflection from the crystal and in the pic with the UV light on, the reflections from the indices is very clear. And the lume on the Rolex hands should only be on top of the hands, right? Is the lume hardcore enough to reflect that much back onto the dial? What do you think? The "glow" is the lume..
The Lume on Rolex hands is held in suspension (the hands are not solid) and so it will glow in both directions..

I didn't realize the hands were made that way; yet another difference in the make and quality of Rolex. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatapatapatalk |

Yes, and initially I was guessing that's what it was but it was so bright and the hands should have been theoretically in the way, so it didn't add up. And yes, Lume pics are always interesting---the one with the UV light on has a very sci-fi night-club look. Cheers! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatapatapatalk |

Yep, Lume goes all the way through. Many years from now it will all fall out, and future dealers, perhaps not yet born, will be selling those "desirable skeleton hands".
