16750 Patina Dial / New Hands

I just received my '83 16750 / matte dial back from my AD for servicing. The hands were in bad shape (corrosion) so new ones were installed. Now the hands are white vs the cream patina markers. I know much about our watches come down to personal taste but would this be a big deal to you? Would you ignore the color difference or seek out a set of patina hands. Are they hard to find and where would I look for some.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

They are out there but not very common. The biggest issue would be to find a set that actually matches your dial. There are many different shades of patina from white to brown.

You might try VRF; I see hands listed pretty often but again, you will need to match them up...

Good luck.

You would physically need the dial "in hand" to compare it to a potential hand purchase. Finding matching hands can be frustrating. You'd be better off having them color matched by one of the service companies that specialize in this process.

Thanks for the tip, can you suggest a service company?

Here is one: http://www.everestwatchworks.com/services.html

I haven't used them but have seen posts about their services on other forums. If they can't help you, I'm sure they can recommend someone that will.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm still wondering how many of you would go to the effort to find a set of patina hands or just leave the new hands as is? Sometimes I think I'm a bit too anal retentive with the whole color match thing. Most people won't notice anyway, I'm guessing..

Maybe put them in your coffee . . .

That's what happens when you go to an AD . . .

Hope you find the matching ones

Good luck

I agree with Springer about the color match. As it stands, you probably wouldn't lose much value vs. having non-matching hands. Then after you're partially satisfied, you can continue to search for the real deal.
