Another price increase?

I was at an Ad today and they told me Rolex was scheduled for another price increase in May since the price of gold keeps going up, anyone else heard of this increase?

not very much, especially when you cut it 25% and make it 18k. there is about 14-16 grams of gold in a tt sub. do the math and don't forget to remove the cost of all that really expensive 904 ss from the equation.

Not a whole lot, but don't know the exact amount. Maybe 1/2 ounce?

The economy is going kind of nuts.

Interest rates came down again, further weakening the dollar. Commodities are going up every day. Inflation is rearing it's head.

There are some who see Rolex watches as a commodity. (not many on TRF as far as I can tell, thank goodness.)

Where am I going with this... I'm going home, locking the door, making some nice spagetti for dinner, hunkering down with the wife and watching a good show on the tv. Larry.

There is no way that your AD could know about another price increase. He's speculating.

I think your AD is trying to work his salesperson charm so you buy another Rolex before May. Fear tactic if you will............

To tell you the truth with all the cataclysmic price changes that are taking place lately, nothing surprises me anymore. When the Rolex board decided the price increase, gold was trading around $675 oz. now this precious metal (true meaning) is racing towards 1100 and personally I expect over 2.000 dollars in the very near future, I enjoy these changes because you can really see what humanity is all about.

Here's a thread about amounts of gold in TT and all-gold Rolex watches.

At first I was irritated about the last increase since I NEED at least 4 more watches. Now I've decided to buy only preowned so the increases don't hurt as much.

I don't believe it, but I also don't completley doubt it. Nobody knows for sure what Rolex is going to do until they do it. However, the higher cost of gold did not cause the TT and gold models to go up as much as we thought they would, so I don't see why it would now.

Like any other company that uses commodities, I am sure they hedge their positions. I bet they are very active in the metals markets, which would help off-set price future increases in these metals.

The interesting thing is that the percentage increases earlier this month were less for TT and 18K models, and higher for steel, showing their desired increased profit margin on the more "affordable" models. They have no problem paying for the metal in their watches.

There were 2 price increases in the UK within a few months of each other in 1999.

My GMT II weighs 231g, 175g @ 24k Gold.

At the current gold price X 6.2 ounces that makes ... um.

$1,000,000,000,000.

I will accept trades of 6541 Milg, plus a couple of vintage newman daytonas.

Now I've heard them all.

I bet there are people who want the price to increase so they feel like they're sporting some 'equity' on their wrist.
