Thin the Herd?
I just acquired another watch and I am now considering thinning the herd since many of them are seeing less and less wrist time. 3 questions:
What NUMBER of watches actually make your monthly rotation, fulfilling all occasional needs (weekends, work, vacations, formal)? What watches are they? How often do you rotate your watches? (daily, every other day, every wk?) |

9 watches and trying to stand pat (until the SS skydweller!). All make it, but some get more time than others.
Rotate daily on occasion but mostly every 2-4 days

I have 3 - white dial Daytona, BLNR and SS plat YM.
To me a watch should be worn, so I wear them all regularly as I feel. The YM gets the least time now as I've had it for 9 years so maybe 20% of the month! the other two fairly equal. |

Right now, 6 with 1 for sale. Seems like a "sweet spot" to me where I can wear each of them at least once a week. In my collection, I aimed for a variety of dial colors and straps/bracelets. And all can be worn in pretty much all situations for me (work, weekend/casual) - I often just change the strap if needed.
I could almost see 4 as a well-rounded collection depending on strap/bracelet changing habits. Otherwise, you start to get into overlap (which is fine of course, but then they get less wrist time) (1) Everyday nice primarily bracelet watch (Rolex Oyster of choice) (2) Dress/nice primarily strap watch (Rolex Cellini, JLC, IWC, etc.) (3) Weekend/fun versatile watch that can be dressed up/down. Could be the chronograph of the collection (Panerai, Navitimer, Omega) (4) Dive/tough watch to be the "beater" |

I have 7 but it depends on the shirt I am wearing. Some have a shirt they absolutely must go with, others can go with almost anything.
Part of the fun is finding the right watch for the right shirt in the morning.

I have 10 watches in my rotation and switch watches about every 2 weeks. Some get picked more than others depending on my mood.

No right answer for number etc as some collect and for different reasons
But if I find myself not really wanting to wear one or the love is gone, it is gone. I don't keep dead wood around and really wear what I have So my answer is thin the herd! |

Thin the Herd?
I have 4 that cover all possible dress situations. I may add one more though, not sure yet.
I have a: - Dressy watch: DJII fluted bezel diamond dial - Dress formal: Cartier MC Tank black strap - Business casual: DJII smooth bezel whit stick - Daily casual GMT watch: GMTIIC LN. I rotate anywhere between every 5 days to multiple times a day depending on my mood. |

Don't thin the herd you might regret it. I actually cycle on a monthly basis. Every month I use either my Daytona, Presidential, or Submariner

Do you suppose it would be overkill to have a BLNR and a 1680/16610 in the rotation?

Five for me fit my needs pretty well.
14060, 114060, 16570, 16700, and OMP Bond work quite well together. I do have my dad's old dress gold Bulova automatic but hardly ever wear it. Also have a crap load of quartz which get not wrist time anymore. |

I think the sweet spot is 5-6, increasingly they are all a bit more up market (no beaters as such). I rotate every 4-7 days.
