Daytona at Indy

Crewed my brothers 65 Shelby at the vintage races in Indy this past weekend, Tom is not the only guy wearing his Daytona in a race car

If I had a real 1965 Shelby I'd be afraid to drive it , much less race it.
Is it a 260, 289, or 427?

Way back in 1967, shortly after finishing grad school, I bought a one-year old Shelby GT350H. For those of you who don't know, the GT350H was a version of the Shelby GT350 made for Hertz and ... yes ... it was a Hertz rental car. It was a very cool car but it was very stiff and, lacking power steering, was challenging to maneuver at slow speed. Unfortunately, within two years I married and subsequently traded the Shelby for a "more practical" 1969 VW bug! Aargh!!! Do I still regret letting the Shelby go? You bet!!!

I can imagine! Trading a GT350H for a vdub? Oh, the pain.
In 1984 I turned down two gems - a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner convertible for $5,000 and a 1969 Shelby GT 428 Mustang for $12,000.

You are right that was a dream and a second place finish in the Pro-Am to the team of Al Unser Jr and Peter Klutt with our driver Gary Moore and Elisio Salazar.
Definitely a high point in our racing career

289, iron block and heads, 580 HP
And yes it is a real GT 350

Couldn't be a 260; that's a Mustang, not an AC...

And I think I paid $2600 for my 1966 GT350H. That car would be worth a tidy sum now.
