Received my new M series SD today!!!

Hey guys,

I've snapped a few pictures. I'm no photographer so forgive the poor quality of the pictures. As most of you already know from a previous thread that well grew much larger than I anticipated, that I went through quite an experence to get this watch. But it is here. Bought from Wempe in nyc, and without any further ado.........here are the pictures:

you'll notice that even though the AD knew I was buying the watch for myself, they still took the time to gift wrap it in very nice wrapping paper with Wempe string and bow. Very nice classy touch indeed. I now know if i was ever to buy a watch for that special lady in my life......wempe has my business.

Also a few observations comparing this new M series watch to the Z series watch i returned to Tourneau (for those of you who are not up to date on the story, refer to http://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=35498

In any case, the new one from Wempe feels much "stiffer". the clasp has a much more distinct "snap into place" feel to it. I remember the previous one I had from Tourneau clicked into place, but without that specific snap into place feel to it, almost as if it has been snapped into place over and over again where you lose that new feeling to the mechanism. Also the one I had from Tourneau actually felt "broken in" in regards to the bracelet and links. It wasn't as stiff, and in actuality felt more comfortable because of its less stiff feeling. But if i was to take a blind test and someone asked me which watch was "new" vs "used" i would definitely have thought the wempe watch was new, simply because of the stiffer links and much more distinct snap in process on the clasp. just my observation.

Also, i think i will need to go back to wempe to get the watch readjusted. In my excitement to get the watch I might not have spent all the time I needed to get it adjusted properly, so it feels a tad tight. They did take out a link however it feels as if this one gravitates to the top part of my wrist as opposed to being centered. The claps is set to hole 3 and I may just need them to set it to hole 2 to give me the extra breathing room. other than that, perfect.

I can't tell you all how grateful I am to all of you for your help!!! Hopefully i can start giving back to this community soon (starting with the SD pr0n) as opposed to just taking :)

Congrats. Glad to hear it all worked out in the end. Nice touch with the wrapping. Sometimes it the little things that keep you coming back.

Can someone remember what the "default" original pin setting on the clasp is? mine is set to position 3 and i do believe it feels a bit tight. will setting it to position 2 loosen it up just a tad?

Hey erdiesel, I'm so glad that everything turned out well and you now are the proud owner of a NEW SD!

Regarding the bracelet sizing, you should wear the SD slighty loose rather than tight. Your wrist will expand in the summer months due to the hot weather, so wearing it slightly loose makes allowances for this.

If you open your bracelet and click open the wet suit extension, you will see there are two sets of 4 holes on the clasp. The 4 holes that are nearest the 12 o'clock end (long side) of the bracelet are the ones which are normally used for fine adjustment to the sizing for your wrist. One day when you feel confident enough, you can do the adjustment yourself. Meantime, go to Wempe.

Congratulations and wear it in good health

Steve

Yes, the clasp pin holes are a great way to make small adjustments. I did it with mine, using a wooden toothpick to not scratch the polished side of the clasp.

my SD also seems to "pull"/lean towards the 12 o'clock side of my wrist. is that normal or should it be centered on my wrist?

Yes a toothpick is a good way. The toothpick should be slightly blunt, but the best tool for the job is the Bergeon Swiss made tool #3153. The clasp can be taped with 3M masking to prevent scratches as well. Care must be taken so that the springbar doesn't shoot out and get lost although that is more likely to happen with removing the bracelet from the lugs.

Cheers
Steve

Maybe you may need a link taken out on the 6 o'clock side. You should discuss this with Wempe when you next go there. They should get it perfect for you.
