I found a nice looking Rolex 6062 that is in good condition. However the watch does have the tendency to start/stop even though it has already been cleaned and serviced. Parts(dial, movement) are all original and the price is still therefore steep. It was fine for a couple of days. I wound it today and it just doesnt seem to start.
Does it still make sense for a collector to buy a watch even though it doesnt work properly. Do people expect 60+ years watch to run properly.
How often do people get their vintage watches serviced.
Any immediate help would be appreciated!!

It obviously wasn't serviced properly, I've seen high end watches requiring servicing at Sotheby's and Christies and they usually commanded near what a fully functioning model would bring, the movement can be fixed. Someone on the forum inherited one and the moon phase gear was stripped and he couldn't find an original moon phase disc and bob Ridley hand made a part so he could use the original disc. I would recommend you send the watch to him if you decide to purchase, or contact him prior to purchase about your concerns with the watch.

Short answer, the fact it is not fully functioning should not destroy the value of the watch as the dial is by far the most expensive part of the watch, but due to parts scarcity and the price of getting it serviced should be factored into the overall purchase price.

And your rolex should be serviced every 5-8 years depending on who you ask, some say up to 10 with modern lubricants.

Many vintage watches if properly serviced can work well for years... Vintage Rolex Prince from the 1930s still working well..

Beware that there are many modified Rolex Moonphase watch using normal bubbleback movements for conversion into Moonphase....
