My first Rolex was a 36mm Explorer. I loved it and thought it was perfect...then I bought a Sea Dweller and it just became puny in my eyes and too small for my wrist. I gave it to my wife but her wrists are so small it looked too big on her so I sold it.

I will not wear anything below 39mm now but I prefer 40mm or better.

I never thought I'd wear anything smaller than 40mm on my 7.25" wrist, but then I inherited a 36mm vintage TT Datejust and I now wear it regularly. As stated above, it is indeed elegant and timeless.

Always. 36mm is a perfectly acceptable size for a gentleman's Rolex Datejust or Day Date:

Never.

But that's because I haven't gotten one yet.
Generally I would say that 36mm is small. But a 36mm RG DD with the black MOP/diamond dial is gorgeous.

A long time ago I started with a 34mm TT DATE. Was looking for a white dial and diamond TT watch. When I finally got the DATEJUST I thought to myself what a big watch...heh....funny how things change.

Too small for me. But I don't like the huge watches either. 40mm seems to be the sweet spot.

I want people who complain about 40mm watches being "small"!to read this thread.
Women these days are wearing 36+ preferably 42mm!!
Times have changed!!! And they call it sexy!!!

Sometimes wear 36mm. The largest watch I have now is a 40mm. I'm not sure with my size wrist I can pull off or be comfortable in a larger watch.

A Tudor sub, 40mm, a 14060, 40mm & a 16610, 40mm.
Those are plenty big for me.

Yes. My first watch was a SS Datejust 16234. To this day it is still my favourite watch. 36mm is the perfect size for a Rolex Datejust and Day-Date. They both wear large on your wrist. I wear 36mm to 41mm watches, but prefer 36mm for dress and 40+ for sport.

I own a 116200 63600, a 114270, and a 14060M.

I have no qualms about wearing a 36mm Rolex.

I own a vintage Tissot that is 34mm and a vintage Hamilton that is 23.50mm by 37.00mm. I also have a modern Tissot that is 34mm.

So, I'm not afraid to wear watches that are quite small.

I used to wear a 34mm on my 8" wrist for 3 years.
It used to be the norm 40 years ago...

And why would you not myself often wear a few of my vintage one and they are 30mm and I have 8 inch plus wrists. Todays fashion trend is that everything that is bigger, heavier, faster etc is better.

I wear my SS DJ 36mm rarely since getting my Sub years ago.

Once you go 40mm+, it's hard to digress to a smaller diameter case.

I routinely see Air Kings on wrists of all sizes. As a general rule, they look very well on a size wrist under 7.5 inches.

Maybe a DD would change your perspective. I like my TT DJ which replaced my OP which didn't have near as much appeal for me.

I've been caught by te Daytona fever and, sadly, just can't stand a 36mm watch on me anymore.
