Help: need a little nudge to dive in the "Crown" world

This is my first post on this forum.
I have been reading a lot of reviews of the GMT 2 BLNR and as helpful as it has already been so far... I still can't decide to pull the trigger.
Some background:
I have been enjoying my Seamaster Professional 300m diver watch since '98 (wear it 24/7) which has been flawless... And with which I am still very much enamored.
As much as I truly find this GMT 2 BLNR absolutely stunning (may be the numerals on the bezel are a tad too large?)... I still fear that I will have remorse when not wearing my faithful "Bond" watch.

Thoughts?? Can someone (try) convince me to jump in??

Welcome to the forum. The Seamaster is an excellent watch, but really, I don't think you will have any remorse (upgrading IMHO) to the GMT BLNR. Think of it this way, you won't be saying goodbye to your Omega so much as enjoying a little variety. You would have the benefits of both depending on your mood.

If you haven't already, I would suggest going to your nearest AD and trying one on to see how it feels...I think you will own one soon after. Good luck!

Have you tried it on? If you're not sure, then don't buy it. Seriously.

First thing welcome the forum family.
You need to get to an AD and try one on see how it feels and see how it looks.
I'm sure you know the rich history of Rolex and the place it occupies in pop culture as well as the major contributions Rolex has made in the art of watch making.
You have the chance to own a part of that and know in your mind that you are purchasing an heirloom that will last long after those of us on this forum are long gone.

You'll have to see the BLNR in person (photos can distort your perspective). I don't think you'll object to the numbers on the bezel. Nothing wrong with having 2+ watches, especially if you get some variety. You'll have a blue diver and black GMT. Good luck and welcome to TRF!

I have two things to say to you:

1. Buy the BLNR
2. Show us pics of your old faithful Seamaster!

No, wait, I have three things to say…

3. Welcome to TRF!

You're lame. Grab your b****. You're not a real man unless you pull the trigger on the BLNR. Let's see an incoming thread already.

You should not buy a watch you're not certain about.

You need to see one for yourself and try it on.

If it's the right watch for you, you will know it and it won't matter one iota what anyone here might have to say about it.

I will admit that I'm head over heels in love with mine.

It's the best Rolex I've bought so far, but then I've said that after every Rolex purchase.

just last year i traded by beloved seamaster for a exp1,, after months of reading this forum , basically educating myself on the rolex brand . I decided to take the leap. what the hell i thought , i can always flip it lol

as chris said earlier , if your at this point where you have done your homework , it just takes that little extra push , believe me Rolex is a step up IMO,,,,
Go try the watch on in the AD with the bad lighting and the stickers ,, if you love it then ,,,, you wont believe how gorgeous it will look in daylight / evening light with the stickers off .
go on you know it makes sense

I had an SMP Bond when I bought my first Rolex earlier this year; now I have five Rolexes and I still have my SMP but I don't tend to want to wear it. I keep it because I feel it has some collection value. I personally find the BLNR a bit over the top for my personal taste (both style and expense wise). I think if it were me I'd be going for a SubC date of SubC if I wanted my first Rolex. You might want to visit a Rolex AD and take a look and try on different models prior to buying (as others have suggested). Good luck pulling the trigger on what ever you get.

I think the BLNR is at home as much on land and sea as in the air.

It looks a little bold in sunlight as the blue pops, it looks a bit sophisticated at night as the blue turns to black. It really is an excellent all around watch... And the GMT function rocks if you happen to travel time zones regularly.

First off welcome to TRF. Secondly, you should get to an AD and try on what you think want, you might changer your mind, maybe an Explorer I or II or some variation of the Submariner would suit you? I went from an Omega SMP to the Sub but I still have that wonderful Omega 2254.50. I assume you're not getting rid of the Omega, correct? Omega makes some great watches. If you purchase your first Rolex and keep your Omega and after some time if the Rolex isn't singing to you you probably wouldn't take too much of a loss if you sold it down the line.
Consider this a "nudge" to get to an AD and try on some Subs, either of the Explorer variations, maybe a DJ and some GMT's.
Keep us posted, it's a wonderful journey!

Welcome to TRF!

I might be way off base, but I imagine you as a practical guy who already owns a fantastic watch which has served you well for a long time and which continues to work flawlessly. You really don't "need" another watch. Despite this rationalisation, you still have this nagging itch in the form of a BLNR which just won't go away!

Maybe the BLNR is for you, maybe it isn't.

My take is that life is too short to die wondering, so get to an AD and try on whatever takes your fancy and go from there.

Let us know how you go. Fingers crossed for an incoming!

I bought the same watch, the same year and wore it as my only watch for nearly a decade. During that period I somehow found myself starting to collect but I still love my trusty SMP and turn to it every year for my holidays.
I'd echo what most have said here. Try before you buy. If you could possibly hang on to your SMP as well, then go for it. I couldn't contemplate letting go of mine after all those years and experiences.

There is no way I will part with my SMP, so no worries there. Too many fond memories and trips in her company!

Welcome to the Forum!

Also I think you should try the piece first of all to see if it sings to you, like Adam said.
And like Mike, I also haven't used my SMP since the Rolex GMT.
Unlike my girls, my watches don't get jealous of each other, I can have and use as many as I decide. And since I consider them too different to say one OR the other, I wanted both. They are both keepers.

Today, I'm glad I did it.

Welcome. I personally love the GMTc, the color choice is totally up in the air, again on a personal side I prefer the more subdued LN look. Otherwise it will wear smaller, look more lusterius and refined, while still a tool watch, the PCL add quite a bit of "dress" look to the piece. To me that makes it a standout SS piece from the Rolex lineup and the second time zone makes a perfect complication that I find very useful, besides having a date available.
And last, if you purchase wisely, and take care of your timepiece, it will last forever and will retain its value very well. Can't wait for you to enjoy the feeling to close that Rolex clasp every morning...
