That ol' crown alignment business again...
So, there's been lots of posts about the fact that the winder crown on most Rolexes is at a random position when tightened correctly.
So, my question is... why DON'T Rolex make them so it does line up? i know that there is a bit of 'give' with the gaskets, but they could do a better job. It would be hard for replicas to be made, and would IMHO lot better - can you imagine buying a Rolls to find the Flying Lady mascot was off-centre on the bonnet?! It can't be that difficult to do, especially given the care they take making their watches, and their attention to detail - just seems odd to me that they don't bother! BTW - some pics that Bo would do infinitely better than me - but I rather point and snap - my tripod would have been better but I am SO lazy. I was trying to use a HeNe laser (handheld as well) to hit the side of the crystal to get a red colour ( like the MG's green glass!). |

I wish I could explain this but I can't. I know it doesn't alter the performance of the watch but for the cost of these things I'd like to see Rolex align them correctly.

I thing that the assembly of the crown is made by machines and it's not hand made that's why the crown has a random position. Imagine trying to align the crown in 2000 watches on a daily basis. That would be time consuming
I don't mind at all that my crown is not aligned but i think that this attention to detail would add more value as the customers would feel more pleased

Yes, this has been covered before but there isn't really a satisfactory answer. Some brands manage to do it but Rolex either can't or aren't bothered. The funny thing is that most modern Sea Dwellers I've seen are exactly upside down. Funny how they can repeatedly get them upside down!! Perhaps it's a perverse kind of security feature like the LEC. Even the fakers could get them the "right" way up, thus getting them "wrong".

I am sure that there are more people here that work for rolex but they don't reveal their identities cause they are going be bombarded with requests and complaints

They should line up unless there's a better answer... But, my crown on sub is directly down and GMTIIC is up directly.
For the quality, why stop at the movt. - do it all!

Even it Rolex lined them up, your first service would change that when the gasket is replaced. I really don't see it as a big deal at all. Sorry guys, don't get this one?

A friend of mine has had several rolex's over the years and he has sent some of them back under warranty (at least two since i have known him) to have the crown aligned straight up, and rolex have been happy to do this for him at no cost. if more people did this i am sure rolex would address the issue.

Getting answers from Rolex Geneva is like getting a word from the creator....
Over the years I sent some letters with questions about my 6541 to Geneva.. never got an answer ! thank you very much p.s. the 6541 collected 60k after 35 years on my wrist ... so I laugh all the way to the bank. |
