Airplane Security?
Need a quick answer please....I'm flying tomorrow morning. Will the security screen screw up my mechanical watch? What do you all do when going through security? Thanks!

I always take a small watch case such as an oakley case and put the watch in there before I go through security.

I wear mine
Why wouldn't you wear it through security? I fly once every two weeks and have done for as long as I can remember and have not had to take my watch off for anyone.

Wearing your watch while going through security is perfectly fine. I never remove it. They don't ask you to do so either.
Have a great flight!

It's fine, as mentioned. I never take mine off (US airports), nor have I been asked to after going through the detector.
Point is, I see no need to remove it and put it on the belt for screening. Leave it on your wrist is my advice.

Airplane Security?
Recently on holiday I was told by a grumpy old security man to remove my watch.
I had an Oakley watch case with me so it was ok. Imagine your watch being tossed around in the security tray and getting scratched, then returned to you. Oh, I was asked to remove my belt to be screened as well. |

I've had to remove mine when flying through China (pre-Rolex). I'll be there again in 1 1/2 weeks and think I may want to pick up a small watch case just for the screening.

Thanks Gents! Sounds like the smart play is to wear it. I just wanted to make sure the screening equipment wouldn't hurt the movement. I should have gotten the Milgauss so I wouldn't have had to worry about it.

I wear my Rolexs through security however my Panerais and APs I put in my messenger bag pocket while in line as I know they set off the alarm. I am never asked to remove them however this speeds up the process.

It will be fine. I put mine in an Oakley case, then put the case in my shoe.

No worries. Wear it and you'll be fine. In many many years of traveling, I was only asked once (at Frankfurt Airport) to take my Rolex off for a security check.

First - the actual scanning equipment poses no harm to your Rolex. So that in itself doesn't indicate the need to remove it before going through security. Second - the TSA sometimes demands you remove the watch. It may only be a 25% probability, so some people remove their Rolex and place it in a carry-on before going through security. It avoids the risk of problems getting it mishandled.
