More UAE POS. U guys should see the amount of crap I see around here like that. There's a HUGE demand for aftermarket dials with Omani, Saudi, Bahrani, Kuwaiti and UAE coat of arms of any kind. They install a dial with a UAE coat of arms to any Roles 1500 Date and suddenly the price bumps to the price of a Submariner. The worse part is... the locals pay for it. I've been offered, what I believe it was a real GMT master military edition of the UAE army with nato strap. It did look like the real deal probably a late 80s model for the price of 43.000 USD. Wanna know the best part? it was gone in less than a week.
God bless khaleeji arabia. |

I know two men who were personally presented with watches from Arab royal families. One is a fairly mediocre pocket watch with the Saudi seal on it and the other is a GMTII with a family seal from a country I can't remember now. Having read the post above, I do believe it was the UAE.
Both men were Air Force fighter pilots who put on shows or otherwise demonstrated aircraft in those nations. I looked into the pocket watch for one friend and basically, it seems that it wasn't worth a lot to begin with and the family seal didn't add much or anything at all to the value. They do make good family keepsakes, though, even if the won't put the kids through college.

I much rather prefer a full set from the 70's or 80's with papers from iran or any Arab country than a unknown origin one with an aftermaket dial. |
