General Thoughts on AP Accuracy
Hi all,
What is everyone's general experience with AP's accuracy, specifically the 3120 movement in the AP 15400 and Divers? |

I've owned two 15400's and they both had accuracy problems. Brand new from an AD and what I find annoying about AP and their quality control issues is that each watch seems to have its own unique problem. I also had an issue with my brand new from an AD 15202. The dial had a white spot on the edge and when I sent it to Clearwater for repair I also asked them to regulate my watch as it was + 10 per day. It came back with the dial issue corrected but it was still off by about + 10 per day. So, great design and style, great service from Clearwater but QC issues from Switzerland.

When you send your AP in for a service, during the 2 year warranty or after, do you get a 1 year warranty after that date it is fixed?

I just got my diver yesterday, and already have to send it in. It's runnin +27 seconds over a 5 1/2 hour period. Very disappointing. I almost want to throw it out. I was told by my guy who spoke to an AP dealer/watchmaker that the diver has come back to the shop several different times for a mainspring issue. I was told that AP put out a a bad batch of hairsprings in the Diver, causing problems. I'm sending mine back for an overhaul and new hairspring. I'm starting to hate one of the best movements in the world.

15400 is spot on, Diver loses 3-4 sec day, fine by me though if I had a choice I prefer them to run fast.

i wouldn't recommend anyone to buy AP for the movement. more for the design of it. |

Horrible. Been in twice to Clearwater, still running very fast. Part of me wants to sell it but the other part of me thinks it will appreciate, so keep it (forged carbon diver).

Daytona 4130: About the diver and bad springs, They told me the same, switched it out and still runs fast, but it is better than before.

It really upsets me. To me, AP is one of the finest watch manufacturers in the world. I have done tons of trades over the past 3 months with 15- 25000$ watches, and this Diver might be my favorite one. I really like it. If I don't get it fixed correctly, it's gone.

I can understand 3-5 seconds +/- a day, but not 10 or more like me. I hope the hairspring fix will do it, along with an overhaul

Get a quartz if you want to the second accuracy. Get a mechanical if you can live with minute variances per day. Get it regulated if it runs faster/slower than tolerable

the 3120 movement has issues.
I have 2 pieces that run fast +15 seconds and +45 seconds/day I sent it in and they replaced the spring with a weaker one / it was "rebanking". Now its losing time lol the older 2326 movement on the other hand, 8 year old offshore never never been serviced is still running +1 sec/day |

IMO most watches that have reasonable precision should be capable of COSC.
AP should be one of these.

I just got an AP Novelty RG 44mm and it's running about 15 seconds slow per day. Also have a 15202 also recently purchased about 2 months ago and that one is running 20 seconds fast per day.
Sent the 15202 into Clearwater service center for regulation service under warranty. They said about 4 weeks turnaround. I'll probably send the AP ROO 44mm in too. So far not too impressed with the accuracy. Not expecting quartz accuracy, but I don't want to be resetting the time every 5 days. :( |

My diver loses about 5 seconds per day on the wrist the gains them back when crown down overnight. I'm happy with that. Mind you that was after it went back to AP to have the mainspring replaced. Still I'm happy with their service and enjoy my watch greatly.

My 15400 runs at 15+ per day and after regulation runs at +7 per day. Not good, and no more energy to send in another time. Giving up.

My Diver gains 6 seconds every day - has done for nearly 2 years.
No complaints here! |

I don't think anyone expects a mechanical atomic watch, but I definitely agree with the idea that a $15,000 watch from one of the premiere watchmakers in the world should be in the COSC range. 27 seconds off in 5 1/2 hours would probably be rejected in the fake community, much less the haute horology community. My older ROC runs about -30sec/day on a timegrapher. Once I figure out how to regulate it to the 10sec/day or less I'll be happy.

My 15300 was running a bit fast when I got it. Sent it in for the 3rd year warranty and had it fixed. Spot on now.

I've had several APs with the 3120. In my experience they're all capable of precise time keeping.
