Am I the only one here...
...who does not really care all that much about scratching my watch?
Sure, I don't wear it while changing transmission in my car but just simple maintenance like taking off the intake, supercharger or shit like that I feel like there's no need to take it off. I do care about scratches, but only on the glass and the bezel. The rest, meh. It will survive and I can always send it in for polishing and get back a pretty much brand new watch. Now, don't go thinking that my watch actually looks like a deadbeat horse because it does not, it's nactually in very good shape but it's past has a few dings here and there (owners before me) and I feel like my Rolex should be with me on all of my best moments even if it's the moments I have to repair my car during breakdowns (happens every week, don't supercharge a car that you want reliable!). But I do not wear it during work since it's stupid to trash it during moments I don't want to remember nor at hardcore sessions in the garage as I stated above Is there anyone else like me here? Totally agree - if you're not wearing it, you're not enjoying it!

I do try to avoid situations that would pretty easily scratch my watch (like reaching up behind the engine to grab the oil filter during an oil change.. or some other activity), but I don't worry about the accidental scratches. You're bound to get them one way or another if you wear your watch every day. If I really still want to wear a watch when working on something that would most definitely scratch the crap out of my watch I'll just put my G-Shock on.

In theory I agree with your sentiments 100%. But I've also been known to flip my watches now and then and I know that buyers want watches that have never been polished but also show almost no wear.
So while I do wear and enjoy my watches I also do my best to avoid bumps and scrapes. I'm also hoping that my current watches stay with me for a long time, in which case I don't have to worry about a buyer down the line. |

I have an old navitimer i've owned for almost 20 years, it's beat to hell, but i'll never sell it as i paid very little for it, and it's been through a lot with me. Here's my daily wearer.. Before the double red i wore my 97 seadweller non-stop for 3 years without causing it any damage. It's what they were made for. |

I completely agree, with one caveat... just got my 16613 back from service and I've had in on a NATO ever since!! It will stay that way through July

I avoid situations that might scratch my Rolex. I still have two vintage Tag Heur for those situations. Just a matter of taste. If your happy that's all that matters. I do love before and after pictures. Amazing what a service can do.

It's a Rolex. It can take a large amount of "use" and take it while delivering top performance. If it gets scratched....okay by me.
When it comes to "abuse", It can take some of that too.....but, why if it can be avoided. Just my thoughts.

I have been known to polish out the occasional scratch or two, but I don't wear any watch or rings when working with tools, and I do so for safety reasons.
Too many ways to snag them and possibly hurt myself so I just take them off until I am done. Safety first...

When I first got my watch I'll admit I was pretty anal about scratching it. As time goes on and you realize it's basically inevitable that it's going to get scratched at some point. It seems that once I stopped worrying about the less things happen to it. While I won't wash my car ( for fear of scratching my car) or do some other task I don't worry near as much.

I get scratches going though life, why shouldn't my watch? I am not going to keep it pristine for someone else to enjoy down the road.

I sweated it with my first panerai...but only until it lost it's scratch virginity. After that I haven't really ever thought about it.

Care factor about scratches is inversely proportional to n to the power of d.
(Where n = number of scratches and d = days of ownership). |

I don't worry about scratches. I wear my Rolex watches doing almost anything. They get a patina after a while. Of course you don't want to deliberately abuse a watch, but don't be afraid to wear it doing anything. It definitely can take it. Wear it and enjoy!

I do pretty much everything with my watches on, but on the other hand I am not careless with them
If they get a scratch I don't sweat it, but I also don't celebrate it either! |
