Rolex 116600 Sea Dweller Sweeps clean the competition...

Even though I've owned a few very nice Rolex divers throughout the years I'm no Rolex fan boy by any means...I hate the fact that after all these hours of reading reviews and sales forums I end up buying the exact same watch every poser/flashy kid/rich guy over here seems to own...

However in my eyes Rolex out did themselves this time. I saw a new SD 4000 for the first time yesterday and was truly blown away by its near perfection....what really really got me is its matte dial, then its slimmed down trimmer 'new' maxi case with very proportioned lugs and crown protectors. I also really liked the bezel & clasp...

I am one who tends to think that you could buy a watch as nice as a Rolex for much less...in this case I really am not so sure. I mean an Grand Seiko diver, PO 8500 etc..do not even compare to the sheer beauty and perfect proportions of the new SD 4000 to me. In fact I think you'd struggle to find a more well finished dive watch at any price..let alone less than what the new SD costs.

That all being said I am in no position to buy such an expensive watch ...but well that's it, just wanted to let you all know that I'm super envious of the owners of the new SD4000...it really is a super super watch ...

It's a nice, well-appointed watch for sure - but IMO the Seiko Marinemaster and the PO (both 2500 and 8500 versions) are also good-looking watches that offer pretty good value for money, possibly even better than the new SD 4000.

In this part of the world, the Seiko costs one-fifth the price of the SD, whilst the 2500 is one-third and the 8500 about half.

Couldn't agree with you more...

I just bought mine (First Rolex) a week ago and couldn't be happier.

I tried all of the following but the SDc was the only one I couldn't find anything wrong with:

114060
116610LN
116710BLNR (don't get the hype...)
116710LN
116520

And the pictures just don't give back how beautiful the black dial is, I know it's a cliché but you have to check it in person to see what it is really like.

I agree 100%. I'm seriously considering it now. The only thing stopping me is the price, which I feel is fair for what it offers.

Pls dont flame me but isnt the new sdc look a lot like subc witouth cyclops n dif bezel? Are there anymore diffenrence? The dial and hour hand n second hand seem to be the same. The size is also 40mm, the bracelet n clasp are also the same right? Maybe different in weight n depth rating? I have never hold it so all my view just based on pic.

I LOVE the narrower case, I LOVE the bezel, I LOVE the matte dial. What I don't like is not having the cyclops and the extra thickness of the watch.

Shouldn't this argument have been brought up when the original Sea-Dweller was released? Mate you're about 47 years too late.....and in the new SD's defence it looks less like the Sub than it did originally.

IMHO, sounds like Sub owners are feeling a little intimidated by the new SD as its a perfect blend of new and old and Rolex nailed it.

I take it you mean the ones where you live and not those nice informed folk on the Forum who helped you make up your mind. Congratulations on a beautiful watch. I agree that it is outstanding. If it weren't overkill for my purposes I might even consider trading in my 114060 and a couple of others to get it. But, I really don't need that much depth or another HEV in my collection. If I need an HEV I'll use my SMP Bond.

When the OP says "over here", I think he means Malta, not TRF.

The Seiko MM is great unless you want to wear it. The lacquer bezel scratches like crazy. The ceramic SD bezel should go scratchless for decades. You get what you pay for.
