NEVER thought this would happen.....

I apparently have to ask permission to get a watch now.

As discussed in prior threads, this 40 year old bachelor is no longer a bachelor.

I saw a DSOM in person yesterday and fell quickly in love. I have always wanted an all black watch and I like the idea of adding this lovely Omega to my collection.

I call DavidSW and low and behold, he has one in mint condition. Crap, I was not expecting that. I thought I would have some time here.

I get home after a long day and say "baby, I bought a watch". She says "are you crazy, you just got two new watches". I respond with "Hi, I am Seth, it is nice to meet you".

After a small discussion, I admit that I did not actually confirm the purchase yet and that her reaction was going to seal the deal.

After more discussion, she gives me "permission" to flip a watch, but not buy one.

I never thought this was going to happen to me. I have not been *(##% whipped in about 20 years. This is completely new to me. I did not even argue the fact. I think I was just happy I got permission.

I never used to have emotional connections to my watches. But my recent slew all mean something to me for different reasons. I have only one that I can flip.

And I absolutely love it. :bang head:

But alas, such is the life of an admitted flipper. Rarely is it that I get rid of a watch because I don't like it. Typically, it is because I simply want one more than I want the one I have. Therefore the TT DJ2 just got boxed up to be shipped out.

I would like to say that it will someday be back. However, I enjoyed the gold color so much, I am thinking that my next watch with any yellow in it, will be full gold.

Time will tell I suppose. Either way, it appears that I am no longer making my own decisions. And in the grand scheme of things, I realize this is a good thing.

Anywho, I love pics as much as you guys, so I might as well take a pic of my outgoing. I am truly going to miss this lovely watch. It is a true gem.

haha Seth my man, I understand where you are coming from and it is a wonderfully fine line to have to tread on (just ask the mrs since I purchased the BLNR).

I got my Mrs into watches which I suspect as actually happening to you now from our private convo =). So now when I talk watches my wife actually gets a little bit excited especially when she starts telling me about her Daytona lol.

I must say that DJ2 is drool worthy but that DSOM is something special something tells me the DJ2 will be back even sooner than you think =).

Nothing wrong with keeping the future Mrs. Superdog happy, just remember every time you get 1 she gets 2 problem solved lol!

Big congrats on the DSOM! 👍

It's a difficult transition from the single life to committed relationship. My wife does not care if I spend money on watches, she just wants to know when I do. Generally, when I discuss it with her, she gets involved in the hunt and it's much more enjoyable. At the end of the day, it's all worth it to have a partner in life! 👍

Never quite understood this practice of asking permission or a go-ahead from the spouse...I just let my wife know that I am adding another watch to my collection and she's fine with it...it's not like I'm going in debt or cashing out my 401k to acquire one...

Just depends on people.
I'm not married so I have never done that.
But I see where some of them are coming from

Its a mutual respect to let the wife know as their lives are combined as 1, some women don't mind and back up their men at any purchase decision.
Some women just want to know about everything that is going to happen and when funds are spent they'd like to be part of the decision making as well

I guess I see things as "ours" in my relationship with the wife, so I enjoy talking about it with her first so that she can also feel comfortable with me taking out the money to pay for the watch. I am also not going into debt or cashing out my 401k etc.

I'm getting married next July. Trying to get my DJII purchase in before hand. I don't want to be in the same boat as OP (as I undoubtably will be post-July 2015).

I have always thought this way.

But I tend to buy/flip. A lot.

And now that we are sharing a life, it's more about respect than anything else.

She searched with me for my Patek, that I got last week.

So this is super frivolous. But believe me, I get what ur saying.

The problem with asking for permission is how would you feel if the answer is a resounding no...

First off, I would make that trade in a heartbeat. I've never been a huge fan of the TT DJII. The DSOTM is incredible in pictures, I can't wait to see one in the ceramic!

Secondly, once my wife and I were married almost 9 years ago (been together going on 17 years) we decided that anything over $100.00 should at least be discussed. It's about the respect and the fact that we share everything, bank accounts included!

Congrats on the watch, congrats on the respect, congrats on the upcoming marriage, and most of all congrats on being happy. It sure seems that way

In many ways it's a good thing.
Even when things are affordable, it's good that the little ladies in our lives can keep us grounded from time to time. Hey, she just saved you some money! (more to spend on the next one).
