Need advice

I have a chance to trade my Plat YM , my pam 183 plus $1200 for a z series Daytona. Just want to get some advice I'll be into the watch for $10400 basically. Just wanna get some opinions from the pros

Only you can decide if having a several year old Daytona is worth what you are willing to offer.

If you don't wear the YM or the Pam much, it may be the right thing to do. Not sure that I would add much cash to that deal.

Larry I would basically be into the watch for 10,400 and I understand I'm taking a hit on my watches because I'm trading them but is it worth the money. I'm actually going to give him the YM the pam a 1950 Suisse gold chronograph and 500 cash.

sounds like you are not getting the better end of that trade, but as has been said if you dont wear the watches currently and want a change then it can always make sense to you.

I guess I'll break with the group and suggest that it might not be a bad trade depending on condition of the watches and how you feel about the YM vs. Daytona as a daily wearer. For reference, I paid ~$13k BNIB for my black dial SS Daytona last year and I saw a 2001 SS Daytona offered at Tourneau the other day for $14k. (I personally think you should only be in about $9200 for a Z SS Daytona.) I've seen on here lately that people claim the SS Daytona is becoming more commonplace - perhaps - but certainly more rare than the plat YM by a mile. Only caveat is the Z won't have the new style clasp which I think it definitely worth it. But on 2 for 1, I have no problem. I once traded a 1983 YG DD, a Tiger Tudor plus cash for a Zenith WG Daytona on strap - which I then traded away again! Good luck with your decision and let us know what you decide.

I would also say no cash and it's an okay deal if you really want the Daytona. You may fare better selling the watches and buying from a trusted seller here on the forum

The trade breaks down to 5500 for my complete YM, 3000 for my pam 183 watch only no box or papers, 500 for my 18k gold 1950 chrono plus 500 cash. It's about 9500 trade and cash value. But I have 9900 into the three watches plus I'll have to add 500.

It totally depends on which watch is the one. If you are not wearing the two you mentioned, it might be time to move on.

I wouldn't do that deal unless I was crazy about that particular Daytona and also looking to streamline things. Even then I wouldn't want to be adding cash

Hmmm. Let me analyze this.

1. Well, I really like the SS YM with Platinum dial, insert. The monotone is attractive, and you don't see them every day. But if you are bored with it, or it doesn't suit your needs, then put it up for sale/trade.

2. The Pam and other watch: I have no experience or opinion. It is a function of your still loving them or not.

3. The SS Daytona is an icon. My next watch WILL be a Daytona of some sort. And they hold their value, as you know. I can understand why you want one.

4. Price: My own philosophy is, except for vintage, buy the newest and best condition you can afford (just like Porsches). I would think you can do better with one of the TRF sellers, if you decide to move forward.

Why not sell the ones you want to trade and then go on the hunt for the perfect Daytona rather than trying to squeeze out a trade for this specific watch?

You can't really break down costs like this.. Value is value-to-you, not some arbitrary dollar value that you might or might not realize at some point in time. In a trade somebody is always going to make the better deal just because "comparable" isn't the reason for the trade. A Dealer needs to make a profit; a collector needs to have the right piece.

Collectors are always trading, buying and adjusting to get the watches that they want, not "does this cost more than that" - it's irrrelevant. What is relevant is being comfortable with the final deal in your own mind, do it, then don't second guess yourself later.
