SubC or BLNR

I have a Omega POC 9300 as my only watch. Need a 2nd watch to mix things up. The Omega is just too heavy for a daily watch, and I am 6'5", 230 with 7 1/4" wrists.

Thinking of SubC or BLNR.

Which one?

A Subc (no date) is the perfect first (or only) Rolex. It's simple understated elegance is a classic that will never go out of style.

Yes, but I need/like the date on my watch.

Either really... The 114060 could be the one and only watch as mentioned! :-)
GMT for the added complication I guess... :-)

GMT. Also flip the Omega. A watch that is too heavy to wear all day is not useful. That way you could be on your way to having both the Sub and the GMT lol.

Both look great in photos (and in person), but the SubC looked better on my wrist. I actually had wanted it to be the other way around, so I could own a less prevalent watch. A few things that I noticed in person...

*The SubC wears slightly bigger as the bezel marking appear to "extend" the dial as opposed to form a border around it

*The blue on the BLNR is beautiful and changes from royal to deep navy

*I chose the (114060) SubC, since I really preferred the clean dial (cost was not a factor)

*I have polished center links on my 116622 and do like them. That said, the brushed center links are a better fit for my everyday lifestyle (looks a bit off wearing PCLs with gym clothes IMHO).

*I heard others make a big deal about the Glidelock clasp and didn't appreciate it enough until I owned the SubC - it's fantastic

*I like the idea of putting other straps on at some point and the SubC seemed more versatile here (have only judged through pictures on here)

*While not a huge factor - if you buy used - the SubC is less risky if you change your mind since I believe that it will take less of a hit over a year of ownership (from used price) as the BLNR

All of this said, they are 2 of my favorite models and I may end up buying the BLNR at some point. As a first (and potentially only) Rolex, I would choose the SubC. The choice b/w date (116610) and no date (114060) may weigh differently for you, since you have a clean dial on the PO and may prefer to have a classic cyclops on your Rolex.

My brother has both. I'd pick the BLNR

I'd consider a Fifty Fathoms and some Panerai models. For a guy your size they'd look great.

The SubC has more of a tool vibe than the BLNR, so what look are you seeking?

Common dilemma around here.
Try them both on.
I own both but prefer the Sub.

Yes, but POC 9300 was my first real watch. For sentimental reasons, want to keep it. And don't wish to make habit of buying retail selling wholesale. Although I got 30% off list.

Consider these and try them on at an AD and choose the one that sings to you.

Omega PO GMT blue dial w/ rubber strap, 43.5mm

Omega Aqua Terra GMT, 43.5mm, get leather and rubber strap

Rolex EXP II Polar or Black, 42mm

Rolex BLNR, 40mm

Pam 88 and other Panerai GMT models

Happy hunting Rockland!

BLNR. It was my first ROLEX and I'm very happy. I'm not to worried about resale because I plan on giving all my watches to my grandchildren

Both are GREAT. Out of those two I would say the BLNR because of the extra complication. I am also a huge fan of the PCL's. Take your time and make sure you are 100% sure before you purchase. It took me 2 years to decide on my first (I kept going back and forth on 4 or 5 different SS models). In the end I picked the GMT for the reasons mentioned above. Good luck in your decision.

Sub

Huge fan of the BLNR but as a first rolex a black sub is an excellent choice.

My take is, I wear my gmt a lot, its the none ceramic, old bracelet and case shape. Very comfortable very versatile watch.

Every time I put my subc on I marvel at how stunning it looks. Everything about it just works and the new bracelet on the c is a real step up.

Get the sub.

I have the green c as my perfect sub line up is a green sub and an old black aluminium classic case shape non date.

Can't really go wrong with either...to me what sets the BLNR apart is that you just won't see that many of them (I still haven't seen another in person...but I saw a chef in LA on Nadia G's Bitchin' Kitchen wearing one yesterday).
