Just a few thoughts on 15202st pricing
Anyone else agree with me that 15202st is essentially not worth the premium unless money was no object?
Before I finish this thought, let me just say that I find the 15202st to be absolutely sublime and amazing in every way. But for comparison's sake. Here's what you can buy with 20k. 1. a mint conditioned vintage sub (or a subc if you prefer modern) + 15300 blue 2. some combination of a sub + a 26300 panda chrono (a sublime watch in its own right) 3. a precious metal rolex (RG daytona jumps to mind) 4. 20,000 cheeseburgers |

Yes, you can buy a lot with $20K. And for my money 15202ST is a great use of that money. Another way to look at it, instead of a Platty Daytona, I could have (3) 15202's...all perspective my friend Then again I could buy 400 Timex IronMan watches--see how stupid the point is now? |

I'm honestly not trolling. But for a noobish collector like myself who absolutely loves the ultra-thin and can realistically afford to pull the trigger, I just can't bring myself to do it given the other options. Just wondering if others agreed.

Seriously
I visited AP Manafacture earlier in the year and saw with my own eyes the 15202 in production and believe me my friend it's worth the $20k price tag |

Your post makes zero sense. A better comparison would be between the 15202 and the 15400 (and yes, I think the 15202 is worth the price difference!).

I kinda see where you are coming from, however some day the penny will drop and then after you have went for option 1,2 maybe 3 you will eventually end up with a 15202 and realize what it is all about.
Of course if you choose option 4 you are buggered as i don't think AP would make a bracelet to fit your wrist ;) |

I have actually had the opposite thought.
The jumbo was roughly 10 times the price (in CHF) of a Rolex sub when released. It is now about three times the price of a sub. Yes the sub has been improved, but nothing any where near to explain the difference between 7 times and 3 times the cost. From this perspective, the jumbo seems to be quite good value. |

I understand it is a lot of money, same goes for the Patek Aquanaut which is even on a rubber strap, heaven forfend , but it all comes down to what you place value on and what you are comfortable with. When starting out these prices seem pretty high but in time as your appreciation and insight grows you will probably end up with an AP and PP or two.

I guess truth be known they are all overpriced considering we can use our cell phones to tell time or buy a Citizens.

I'd take 20,000 burgers over a 15202st any day!
That's 30 years of food taken care of right there. Along with a healthcare bill the size of a Patek GC!

20,000 burgers is tempting, but how about 2,900 chipotle burritos? If you can make this happen I'm ditching AP

Try it on and if it doesn't sing then move on.
I just strapped on the 15202 back to back with the 15400 blue for the first time at the NYC boutique 2 days ago. I was more confused afterwards than before I walked in. In the end, if I do buy an RO I think I will opt 15400 because I like the second hand and my wrist carries it well. That said, I think the 15202 is a good value compared to the nautilus. |

I agreed! I would go for Option 4 to buy 20,000 burgers to feed the homeless and the hungry! For that, the 15202ST is not worthwhile!

sounds like its time to sells my APs and buy cheese burgers. I might enjoy all those animal style double doubles more than my APs but it would probably kill me.
As much as I love my 15400 the 15202 is worth the price difference. I wish I could pull off the smaller size and I would have it. |

If you were going purely on the emphasis on likeness, the better comparison is the 15300 which is much more closely proportioned to the 15202st than the 15400 (the blue is even closer). It's just a means of putting the money in perspective before pulling the trigger on a 15202. Would I rather have 1. My favorite watch (the 15202st) that I can afford; or 2. My 2nd (a 5513 maxi sub) + and 3rd favorite (a 26300) watch? At the moment, it's absolutely number 2 and I don't think I can change my mind until the day where I can scoff at 7k as a figure that has very little impact on my life. |

I don't think the OP is trying to troll. I have the same concerns when buying my first AP and go for the 15400 instead due to the price tag. After all 20K can buy a precious metal watch or for that matter 20,000 cheese burgers
However, after I got the Jumbo, I start to believe it is worth every penny. It's just about the most perfectly designed watch ever made IMHO. See this to understand why : http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=356146 PS : Are there still $1 cheese burger nowadays? Or we are talking about mini-burgers here. |
