Only $6500 for a pen,but not any old pen one with a wonderful bullsh~t description then they want nearly $4 to gift wrap it.

The style of Girard-Perregaux is brought into golden resolution on the rounded square shape of their limited edition Tourbillon writing instruments. Rich, pearlescent and caramel-coloured Havana celluloid is light and soft in the hand and brought into definition with pure yellow gold appointments. Each pen contains a milled engraving of the brand name and an engraving on the cap end of GP's famous Tourbillon cage. The clip, which is inspired by the bridge of the Three Gold Bridges Tourbillon, is crafted from yellow gold, attached with solid screws, and finished with a natural ruby. Unscrew the cap for a rollerball point or an 18k gold nib on the piston filler fountain pen. Each pen is individually numbered on the instrument's base and enclosed in a miniature desk-styled box with a bottle of premium ink and a pad of paper. Limited edition of 50 pieces

I just can't fathom paying US$6,500 for a measly pen. Then again, I've been using a SS 'maytag' pen for almost a year.

nice looking pen but, as you stated Peter at $6500.00 msrp you would think they would throw in the gift wrap! I could buy BNIB Rolex for that price!

Agree Earl but even our Rolex are really overpriced.

I guess to each his own. If one is a pen lover (with the same intensity and passion that we love watches), and if he also happens to be a very rich man, then I guess that pen would be his!

Agree but if I ever could afford $6500.00 for a pen,or be daft enough to buy it don't think I would care about cost of packing.Think I would care more about loosing my sanity

The pen is nice but you have to admit that the brilliant composition of that description is worth $6,000 by itself! What's more it doesn't have to be gift wrapped.

Since I am in the pen business, I guess I will have to defend pens selling for thousands of dollars since I sell them every day.

People who are pen collectors are almost the same type of people who are watch nuts like us. The only difference is most pen collectors have more pens in their collections, than most of us have watches.

Some are into both, as I am. That is what some of the pen companies are counting on. That is why GP came out with a pen. Plus two of the most well known pen magazines publish watch magazines. Penworld also does Insync and Stylus does International Watch. So crossover business works well.

I have a couple of accounts who spend up to a couple hundred thousand dollars a year on pens. Personally I like watches better than pens, but I could not afford to have 40nice watches like I have in pens. But on the same note, even in the being in the business, if I have a spare $6000 or even a few grand, I look towards watches first. I only have a couple of pens that cost over $1000 in my own collection.

The thing with pens is most of the manufactors come out with Limited Editions a couple times a year and some collectors have to have the newest of latest one out. Can you imagine if Rolex came out with a limited edition watch even every two years how many people on these forums would buy them? Look how many Kermits and SS Daytona's are on some collectors want list.

The two hobbies go together well. I mean, yes a 59 cent bic will write and so will a $50 casio watch keep time. But we all know we all want more than just the ordinary. We all like things of quality, craftsmanship and beauty.

That is what you get with high end writing instruments, or any other luxury accessory we all may have. plus nothing writes nicer than one favorite fountain pen.

Anyway, did not mean to rant. Both are great hobbies.

"Passion" is the key word here, guys...the same kinda passion we have for watches. There are guys here who collect odd things like tobacco pouches, snuff boxes, rego plates from cars...you name it...plenty of antique shops in Auckland and you should see some of the crazy stuff they've got on sale!!!

I know, I know... that said, I have 25 years of driving under my belt and I am sure I have driven at least 450,000km, maybe more. Then again, the distance we have between towns and cities is likely greater here than any where else in the world (except maybe Siberia) and I did use my car as my office when I was a reporter, and when I worked in the ski biz, going from resort to resort.

I was just kiddin', John. In actual fact, I've driven the length and breath of India....and trust me, that's one helluva big country. Of course, nothing as big as Canada, but BIG nevertheless. In Iran too I covered a lot of ground due to the nature of my job (I worked for an import/export firm). In NZ, however, my driving distances have most certainly come down.

I really haven't a clue as to how many miles I've covered, but if you only count India, it's a lot....a helluva lot!!
