I think it's just a matter of taking off the caseback and turning a screw, then timing it.

Same here

At least this is the way that the regulation of rolexes is done

They use a tool called microstella and they are turning some screws that are situtated in the balance wheel

invasive? well taking the back cover and turning some screws a few notches. dont have to take the watch apart, but it does require a bit of tinkering

my old man telling me not to regulate it since i didnt purchase my watch from my local AD and even though he has said that he can do it free of charge, it wouldnt be nice to ask him to give you "after sales support"

Very simple procedure for a watchmaker to regulate a Rolex watch takes around 20-30 minutes, first check on timing machine, then case back open, regulate watch, fit new seal, case back on, and re-pressure test.

It's as easy as playing the triangle in an orchestra - its not how you hit it its when.
On some Rolex there are quite a few of these microstella screws set up as opposing pairs. The opposing pairs of screws vary the mass by a different amount (in two variables as I recall) and they need to be adjusted evenly as opposing pairs so as not to unbalance the movement. The microstella adjusting tool is a nifty bit of work and looks a bit like a small reverse crank handle. This adjustment takes place very close to the hair-spring and is not for the apprentice to do.

My AD in Adelaide does not do this work on Rolex, they are sent to Melbourne RSC - a round trip of 1500km.

My DateJust has been running a little off and I've toyed with the idea of sending it back for an adjustment. I've wondered the same thing and have been a little hesitant to do so.
