Kids don't do drugs

I went to high school with her and it's sad to see what has happened to her. She was really cute back in high school but look at her now. Heard this has been going on for 6 years.

Because of my work, I've been very close to the effects of meth and crack and the devastation they cause and those effects are far reaching.

Every time someone goes down that path, they affect the lives of countless others, ranging from the extended family, to coworkers, to the community-at-large.

People who are addicted to these drugs become soulless, by my observations. I'm not an expert on souls, by any stretch of the imagination, but I have heard police officers refer to those addicted as drug-seeking organisms and my experience tells me that that description is pretty much on target.

These forms of addiction are not new, but in these cases, the effect seems almost infinitely more intense.

Been top of news here in Australia this week, as the daughter of our former state Premier, I guess govenor if in the USA, has been arrested as an accessory to the murder of someone over an Ice deal ($80 bag) gone wrong. It is claimed she would have had as much as $10M in inheritance, she also had been very pretty her mother was a model, and now her life is in the trash in her late 20's, she will be in jail for a decade or more.

A friend of my son's went down the oxy contin trail a few years back. A nice kid who quickly morphed into a fiend who stole from everyone, including his own family, in order to obtain more. I sure hope he was able to turn his life around.

Drugs are bad.....I fight opiate demons daily.....and yes they have almost killed me twice.

I wish you all the best. I've been taking morphine, vicodin and valium for my back and hips since 1998. I've never felt a "high" or anything else other than pain relief. I'm 6' and weighed 155 pounds at one point in 1997 due to the pain. I couldn't eat and had to force protein shakes down. Those opiates allowed me to live my life again. I was at the point last year where I needed to loose weight and walk for the benefit of my back. Been doing so at the mall nearby my home since January. I'm now at 220, a 19 pound loss. Some days are murder and I may as well be taking aspirin for all the good they do, but I don't want an increase in dosage; won't make any difference when I'm in those pain valleys.

I've heard it said when you go down that road there are only three possible destinations: insanity, institutions, and death. Sounds like she's hit the first two and the second one, jail, may be the only thing keeping her from the third.

Very true. If she's incarcerated, I hope for her sake it's a long spell.

The minds are weak from a lack of proper raising. Parents no longer require their children to learn to handle problems, instead they handle everything for them or just cave and give kids everything they want. Then kids get out on their own and have no clue how to cope so drugs become the answer. I see it all the time in the pawn shop and saw it just as much when I was a full time substitute teacher in metro Atlanta. Kids are ill equipped to handle even minor issues that pop up so when the big ones hit they shut down and use selfdestructvie behavior.

There is a very real genetic component to addiction. I'm not diminishing the role of personal accountability and responsibility, but blaming addiction on a "weak mind" is ridiculous.
