Wondering how many of you out there have either the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited or Sierra Unlimited? I am looking at these 4 door models and thinking about trading my car-in for one of these babies- they look like a lot of fun. I'm curious though about your feedback - ride quality, wind noise, practicality. I'm not really looking to off road or anything so I'm not sure how practical it is for your everyday middle aged corporate guy and I'm not sure how much sense it makes to trade an Acura sedan for a Jeep. Like a watch and watch buying ... You've sit to sit in one and take several test drives. If you expect a cushy Cadillac ride you will be disappointed. That being said I still love my 1997 wrangler. It doesn't see much use these days but I can't think about selling it.

I don't own a Wrangler but I am considering one when I retire.
The mileage is not very good and the ride is somewhat harsh, but hey, it's a Jeep. The resale on a Wrangler is unbelievably high. Check out Craig's List to see what I mean.
Jeeps have a huge following and forums that rival TRF for participation and members.
If you don't mind the poor gas mileage I think it's a great vehicle, especially if you have other cars in your garage.

My tenant just bought a 4 door Sahara - fully loaded. He doesn't find it real comfortable. In fact, just had a hit & run with it and his rental was a Ford Explorer and he liked it a lot better. His big gripes are that it rides rough and the gas mileage. Especially for a close to $40,000 vehicle.

I had originally thought about a Wrangler for my girlfriend, but last week we ordered a '15 Cherokee Trailhawk. All the off-road (and snow) capability in a more luxurious ride and about the same price.

mid 30's in corporate america and have been using a lifted jeep wrangler sport almost daily for the last 2 years...i have a 2-3 hour commute each day when i am not working from home... and i have to say it's a VERY fun truck if you like offroading... as far as daily use.. it's not that great which is why i just bought a grocery getter recently.

if you're looking for comfort... there are a lot of other SUV's out there... if you're looking to get muddy and ride the trails you can't pick a better one.

oh my lifted jeep is NOISY on the road... the tires are very loud.. i had to get a sound system installed just to drain out the noise.

still on a summer day with the doors and top off nothings better.

A jeep wrangler / sahara isn't supposed to be a smooth ride... it's a jeep. They're great out on the trails and a lot of fun. All my friends had jeeps years back and we went everywhere with them. I am biased towards the 2 door manual transmission jeep..

But I am doing to many miles a month so I rather go for some more comfort . .

I had a black 4 door Call of Duty edition that I really enjoyed.
Wife hated it.
Kids loved it.
I liked being able to go anywhere and do anything and not worry about what happened as it's a Jeep!
I did go off roading here and there which was a blast and it was fun in summer and winter.

Electronics were better than you'd expect in a Jeep and it was pretty comfy.

But it's still a Jeep and not a sedan.

I'll echo the sentiments here. I was a full size truck owner for many years. The ride on those has improved over the years and is quite good. My Jeep is tall, hard to get into, rides rough. Gas mileage is about the same as my big trucks. Having said that, I love mine:

We have a 4 door Moab and love it. It is a bit rough, a bit noisy but we have a blast in it

When I first got my wrangler, I had the top off on a beautiful day and went sailing. I was far from shore when a wicked squall came up after a while getting soaked I remembered the jeep....there was nothing I could do at that point anyway. When I eventually got back there was about 3 inches of water inside. The rain was over. I popped the drain plugs under the front mats and drive off watching and listening to the water drain right out. There was a lot of water in the back so I found a few hills and hit the brakes so the water went forward. In a few hours the inside was bone dry the radio and electronics all worked fine. I was hooked.

They don't do anything particularly well, average off-road performance notwithstanding. Plus they drink gas. Unless you literally live on a beach they're like owning a dive watch and never diving. Ooops. Wrong crowd. Buy two.

Absolutely love my Wrangler Unlimited! I have a 2014 Polar Edition with numerous mods. 35 inch tires, 18 inch rims, 3.25 inch lift, 4.88 Gearing, Bumpers... LOVE IT! If mileage is a concern it isn't for you, I average about 14/15 Owing a JK is like TRF, once you start you are hooked. Some friends of mind have 60k+ into their Jeeps. Go for it you will enjoy it and never look back. Since I do live in the beach that is added fun too.

Thanks dude. Yes dramatically more quiet, last one was a soft top. Problem as to take it off other than the two front pieces is a PITA and takes a couple of guys and some time.

They do have a dual top option. It is rather expensive.

Never had one, been in many, but I feel they are a better second car over daily driver. So I've had pick-ups (one a 2005 Power Wagon - the Rubicon of Pick-ups) and now a Compass. But, I'm moving, I'll be 3.5 miles from work, so gas mileage and comfort become much less important. That said, Ram has just launched the latest, redesigned Power Wagon. It's benefit is it can tow 10,000 lbs. The drawback is it's huge! It's as capable as a Rubicon (if it'll fit, lol).

Man, you get a Rubicon - fully locking axles, front sway bar disconnect, etc. and not ever take it off-road, I will cry for you're Jeep! That's like putting a Grizzly Bear in a cage!

Have one, JKU Sahara. Previously had an Acura TL. It's different of course from a luxury sedan but much more fun. I'd say go for it, if you decide you don't like it the good news is these things hold their value exceptionally well. I went soft top because the hard tops I see around here tend to stay on because they're such a hassle, and that's not what I wanted.

Thanks for the advice. Having fun with it so far - doing small customizations. There are a lot of options that's for sure.

Just have to get than hang of that Jeep wave!

Afraid there is only one good off roader and general road use for comfort etc and that's British its called Range-Rover or Landrover.

Glad you are keeping the jeep wave alive too. I don't drive mine much - regulated to third car status - but when I do these days I don't get a response to the wave so wondered if it was disappearing.
