Anyone here into Cuckoo Clocks?

Hello fine people,

I would like to buy an entry level cuckoo clock.
Minimum requirement: The cuckoo must come come out every hour or every 3 hours of whatever
I know they can get very extravagant, in terms of what comes out of those 2 little doors ...

Can someone tell me:
1. Where to buy?
2. What model?
3. Are these clocks also made in China mostly?

Thank you

The good ones were/are made in the Black Forest in Europe.

Try flea-bay to get a handle on what is available and a price range.

Good luck !

I think they are neat. My mom has one that belonged to her mother. It's quite small, I'm guessing it was made in the 30's or 40's? I'll have to check the brand. It only has one 'coo' that works, it probably would benefit from some sort of service. They don't really run it anymore except to make it sound for the grand kids. I'd love to see get serviced.

While stationed in Germany I used to see them all the time. Marvelous simply marvelous.

It's almost worth a trip just to go shopping for one. But if that's not enough to justify the trip think of all the beer you could drink as while there shopping for cuckoo clocks.

Have one from my grandfather, it hangs in our hallway on the third floor(my parents house) and it has been there for the past 16 years or something, my sister and I couldn't sleep because of the damn thing when we were young so it hasn't worked the past 16 years

There are several clock shops in my area and they almost always have new or used Cuckoos for sale. They usually Cuckoo on the hour and half hour. (half hour once and the number of hours every full hour). Try to find an 8 day running clock versus a one day. Also try to buy a running clock with a guarantee as some are very very expensive to repair. Good Luck.

I have several, none worked when I picked them up at garage sales and flea markets, a little oil and some cleaning they all work just fine. The most fun was repairing the bellows, a good clock will have very thin leather bellows that develop leaks and rot. Repairing those was a real challenge. Rust on the chains creates a lot of debrie in the works so keep your chains clean, and have fun

Thank you guys for all your help. I can appreciate the mechanical vintage german made clocks and thats what I am looking for. I am not a cuckoo clock major fan so $$ and budgert is a consideration --- my budget is under $100 ...there is some good stuff out there on ebay though..

thanks a lot for your feedbacks.

Yeah, $100 will not get you a German version. You'd need probably ~$250 to get a pretty nice but simple model. Impressive versions go for around $500 and up.
