DSSD/SDDS/whatever Rating Numerology Conspiracy...
Here's my take on it...
12800ft... that combination of numbers as in the digits as opposed to the number twelve thousand eight hundred, can be construed as an auspicious number in the Chinese language. I reckon that this is a blatant effort by Rolex to appeal to the rising nouveau riche emerging from the former Communist state... All is fair in business... |

That watch would look super huge on a small wrist. It would look huge on a large wrist!

I also noticed elsewhere that the latest offering from Jaquet Droz, a haute horlogerie brand part of the SWATCH group is in a limited edition of 88 pieces, which sounds like 'prosper prosper' in Chinese. |

Interesting. I understand the watch has been tested to 5000m, so it begs the question why such a strange depth rating has been chosen.
This answers it.

I am not sure about the theory... but as long as it has Rolex written somewhere on the watch... then it will sell all over the world as fast as Rollie can make 'em!!!! |
