Here's my take on it...

12800ft... that combination of numbers as in the digits as opposed to the number twelve thousand eight hundred, can be construed as an auspicious number in the Chinese language.

I reckon that this is a blatant effort by Rolex to appeal to the rising nouveau riche emerging from the former Communist state...

All is fair in business...

The numbers 12800 mean nothing to me (other than the price that grey market dealers will probably be charging for this watch). Could you explain the significance of this to the non Chinese members? thank you

In Cantonese, a prominent Chinese dialect, 1 - 2 - 8 in sequence sounds like 'easy prosperity'.

I also noticed elsewhere that the latest offering from Jaquet Droz, a haute horlogerie brand part of the SWATCH group is in a limited edition of 88 pieces, which sounds like 'prosper prosper' in Chinese.
