Hi everyone

Curious what you guys and gals think of this Rolex. I'm in the mood for a dress watch with a moonphase. ALS is upwards of 30k and I'm just not in the mood to spend that much.. There is GO.. But I thought this is pretty attractive. I have 8 steel/gold Rolexes and thought I'd try something else.. But then I saw this one

That's beautiful, but I will agree with you that if I am going to buy a dress watch under $20k, it's going to be a Glashutte.

Thanks.. Mind you, I suspect the Rolex will be mid to high 20's. I prefer gold which will bring price up.

I think these are all just under $20k US MSRP. I bet if you wait a year or so, you can get a really good price on a LNIB.

Nice watch but keep in mind it's not a true moon phase and just a day / night indicator.

Love the new Cellini line but if you want a great moonphase watch from a great manufacture I'd go with this...

I agree, the JLC is so much nicer. And it actually has a moonphase

in that price and kind of watch, my pick would be a GO or a Blancpain...the complete calendars from BP are awesome (offering many sizes and metals to choose from) and almost anything from GO is stunning, IMHO...the Cellini is good but I just think the competition nudges past it.

I think they're beautiful, but for that kind of $$ I would look to other brands already mentioned.

Its nice, but for your budget I think there are other better choices. JLC for example.

Yup. It's very hard to beat the JLC MUT Moon for the price.

JLC MUT Moon 39 gets my vote since anything else goes way over your budget, I however would get a PP Calatrava or ALS 1815 in that price range.

Firstly, thank you to you all for your great input. I did see (in person) the JLC MUT and I know it's top of the line quality.. But it didn't "move" me. I saw it and just went ehhhh..
I believe that part of reason is that I am a gold kind of guy and ss doesn't always sway me.. Aesthetically speaking.

I get watches because I like them and I have never flipped a watch. I now subscribe to the school of thought "you like it and it sings to you, then bravo".

I'm in love with ALS. But after duties and taxes.. 32k touches almost 37k and it's a bit much. We are talking pp range now.

I'll keep you all updated.. I also liked a few Vacheron models I saw.

Keep in mind many ALS can be had secondhand for 40% off and new for roughly 25% off. You may be able to afford the model you want...

Thanks GB. Here in Montreal (as far as I can tell) flipping, trading or getting 2nd hand isn't as common as it is in the States. I asked my AD (Chateau) if he deals with 2nd hands or buys some in. He said very rarely and only if you're buying something much nicer. I am one if those guys that always buys a watch new. Same applies to cars.. I just have to be first owner. ALS in Montreal are a rarity and I know of only one AD that carries them (again Chateau). I do get 20% from him but again we are in mid 30s with the ALS.

I'll look at the GO's again.. I just wish they weren't so close to the ALS window lol

I'm a Rolex fan and I'd take the JLC in rose gold anyday over the cellini . Also from Montreal, Chateau D'ivoire didnt give me the time of day , so they didnt get my money
