My prediction for Basel 2009...
Rolex's Patrick Henniger seems to be embracing the undeniably successful strategy of re-developing interest Rolex sports models in the following manner:
1. Introduce design and technical innovations to the gold model first (the new GMT and now the Sub), followed by; 2. Same changes, available the following year on the TT model, then; 3. Bring out the stainless model, new style and technical innovations and with polished centre links the year after; 4. Up the price..... This has happended with the GMT, seems to be happening with the Sub, and now we see the Sea Dweller following a similar path of ceramic/parachrom/rehaut engraving and what some refer to as increased "bling" through changed font size/styles (compare GMT bezel to the old 16710 model). For 2009? Who could say...........Re-vitalise the Explorer II which would have: 1. TT bezel, set, not rotating; gold metal bezel ring with black ceramic insert for black dial and white ceramic dial for white dial; 2. 43 mm dial with maxi dial and orange 24-hr hand trimmed in white or black; 3. ratcheting clasp, parachrom hairspring; 4. TT band, and; 4. New price......... They always keep us guessing huh? I look forward to Mike's first posted photos of his new Deep Sea. Maybe some wrist shots as well as the stand alone shots of the watch. I'd be happy to take the pix, but I don't think I'll be getting a Deep Sea before I go for a TT Bluesy........ Best, Chris |

I would always be open to a new bracelet clasp!! If they could update all the models to what the GMT IIc has or the DSSD then I am sure we would all be a lot happier
