What is a "Trusted Seller" and how do I check them out?
So another member and I agreed on a price, I am the seller, they have experience, I do not.
I have no reason whatsoever to suspect anything but everything is on the up-and-up, the other party is courteous and professional. I'm just transactionally new and understandably cautious. The process was described to me as: 1. I receive a fully insured FedEx shipping label. 2. I send watch and they receive it next day. 3. They look over watch, make sure it is as advertised. 4. They wire money to me. 5. Everyone is happy. Is this how it works? It seems like a bit of a leap of faith for me the seller, so how do I assuage my caution? Thanks for your guidance. Peace. |

A few "trusted sellers" have very good reputations on the board and sell many watches to other members. They probably wouldn't risk ruining their reputations over one transaction. That being said, agree on "what if's"...who covers shipping costs if condition of watch is debatable and agreed upon price is no longer valid, etc...

Once I have the money in-hand and clear, then I send the watch.. unless there is a lot of trust and a good reputation that the buyer can validate.

What he said - no way would I ship a watch without cleared payment. Then shipped, tracked, adult signature signed for.

His second point, after the "unless" is a key point IMHO. If it was Tony (Justrolexes) or DavidSW or a dozen others who have had strong dealings with perfect feedback in Who's Who - and if I was the one without a TRF trusted reputation - then the case is different.

Be careful with FEDEX, they do not insure watches or jewelery. Normally, individuals using FEDEX have third party insurance. As far as sending a watch and receiving payment later, I'd recommend you follow Tools advice in his response.

This. If it's a well-known professional seller, sure. If it's a fellow watch enthusiast, money first.

I'd be interested in hearing more - so someone has to trust someone else - either with the wire or watch?
Why would anyone want to do that "trusted" status on an internet forum or not. No disrespect to this forum but trusted and internet are right up there with Jumbo Shrimp and Army Intelligence. Unless we are talking a trivial (to the transactors) amount of money in which case I guess . . . . . |

No disrespect taken...trading on a forum is not for everyone. For me, before watches, it was race cars. Believe me, the watches are cheaper so not such a big risk. Do your homework and you'd be fine.

I don't flip them. Buy and keep. For whatever premium there is to buy at an ad worth the peace of mind. Again no intent to offend. You guys save a few bucks, more power to you.

What John means is that it is very common for forums members to wire money to certain individuals with a strong reputation on TRF. We trust some individuals as much as we trust other online businesses. These trusted sellers are more than willing to meet you in person. The wiring is only for those who can't or no longer feel the need to do a face to face.

When you are selling a watch to a trusted seller they will not take a leap of faith on you period. You are the newbie, they have the feedback reputation and too much to lose to screw you.
I do many transactions like this and so do other sellers. There are only a handful that I would consider trusted sellers :) |
