Will Rolex make an app for the Apple Watch?
Just thinking out loud. Do you think Rolex (or any other manufacturer) will come out with an app to show their classic watch design on the face of the Apple Watch?
I guess many watch enthusiasts will buy such an app. Or perhaps it may be distributed only to actual owners. Well, I guess nobody is going to forbid you from using a picture of your beloved Daytona (for instance) as a wallpaper, but I was thinking that this smart watch trend may be an additional opportunity for some brands. What do you think? |

But my question is do you want to run around with an iWatch showing a Rolex pic on it ?
Not me at least . . . . but to be honest I am not a big fan of this watch . . . |

I definitely think there will be Apps designed to simulate well known brands, maybe even the brands themselves will create them. Take Panerai with its screen saver download for computers. If Tag were to create one it could look very much like the Monaco V4.

Apple may well indeed make a Rolex style dial face complete with digital cyclops and I'm sure they will be very careful about avoiding any trademark infringement issues.
But will Rolex come out with an app or license Apple, Samsung, LG, etc. to use a likeness of a Rolex dial? Not likely, even though Apple would be in a position to offer them and obscene amount of money for the rights. Rolex doesn't play well with others in that way. They're pretty adamant that any timepiece that says Rolex on it or displays the coronet actually be a Rolex watch.

A Rolex app would bring no value to Rolex and no value to Rolex owners

By the Way: The other day I drove past the Technium(or some such name) in Lititz, Pa. They have no sign to identify themselves as a Rolex Service Center nor a $1M+ Rolex School. Just says "RUSA"...... Downstairs the school(I can't get in, no way) and upstairs( I can't get in, no way), the RSC, that takes work from the NY RSC and maybe Dallas....... Secure, locked down facility...... |

Dan, I think you stumbled upon a highly classified Rolex lab or something! I can only imagine what they do inside that compound. Hi-bred, DNA blended Franken-watches maybe? I'd love to get inside that place for intelligence gathering.

Oh gosh, the "Apple watch"? I'm already getting bored of their iTunes and incompatible wiring so just the idea of an "apple watch" gets me nauseous...

In fact if there should be an application, it should be a "grande complication" one, minute repeater, perpetual calendar, chronograph, tourbillon, still won't make me buy one but if it has the technology why not see big
