Picking up 1st Rolex tomorrow

40th birthday tomorrow and I have an AD holding a GMT2c (black bezel) and an 114060 for mr. I am currently undecided but tomorrow lunchtime the mrs and I are heading to the AD to make the choice then going for a celebratory glass of fizz and nice meal, where I will insist on checking the time constantly.

I am still undecided on the GMT or Sub but now I am edging toward the sub. Tomorrow I will try both on and listen for that song I hear so much about!

I have spent months reading this forum and researching so thanks for all the help so far.

I will report back tomorrow. Will it be the no date sub, or will the GMT sing loudest? Let's see!

Wow, Happy Birthday and a huge congratulations in advance, can't wait to see which one you pick, no wrong answer though! Just tell the wifey that whatever one you pick the other one will just end up being your second Rolex purchase...

I personally think the 114060 is potentially the best overall watch ever.

Think I'd go GMT2 as my first Rolex, but then I would use the time zone functions. As a second the 114060 would be an excellent compliment.
Either is a winner.
Congrats.

Gee, that is going to be a tough moment in the jeweler tomorrow. Both will look great, both are great. Good luck!

Agree with what Jack T said. It's not like you are going to end up wrong either way. Just be aware - once you buy one, often more follow. I bought a DJII in July, followed by a GMTII BLNR Friday. Now searching for the next! Good luck and happy Bday.

Both winners. The Sub is on my wrist with it's classic look, glidelock clasp and brushed links. I've been considering a GMT LN as my next, if I decide I'll be able to live without the long clasp with glidelock. Good luck and post some pics. Cheers.

Happy birthday!
I know it's your birthday and all, but at lunch just be certain the missus knows you're admiring your new watch, not checking the time!

So I started off thinking sub date. But, I am not sure about the cyclops. I figured, if I decide I like the cyclops (I change my mind daily) then I should go GMT as I could use the extra time zone, and it is less common. However, if I decide I don't want cyclops then 114060 is the answer.

Then I started researching more and reading TRF. Now I want both!

I think it will be 114060 tomorrow.

(Then maybe a BLNR later!)

Picking up 1st Rolex tomorrow

Sounds like your day tomorrow is going to be more of an 'experience' rather than just a 'purchase'. Seems like your plans tomorrow are similar to what mine were at the time of purchasing my first Rolex - an AD holding stock and then going to buy it and then drinks and a nice meal.

I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the acquisition of your first Rolex.

Happy 40th birthday, too!

If you want one watch, the black bezel GMT is a great all-rounder... If you want to tempt the slippery slope, get the Sub and soon you will be wanting something with a date, then date and 24-hour hand, then...

My first Rolex was the GMT2 back in 2005. I think you will like either one but I think the Sub is more popular. Happy birthday.
