Local AD Has Clearance Case
In the Northern VA area the local AD has taken to putting certain Rolex models in what they refer to as the clearance case. All sales are final and according to them the warranty is thru the store and NOT thru Rolex USA. I think they mentioned the warranty card does not come with the watch as well. Interesting.
This AD is in a very expensive mall so I'm intrigued as to why this is done. They have a beautiful platinum 118206 I've spoken to them about but it's a very old stock item with today's 57K price tag. They said I can have it for 25% off but still a lot for a Z series with no Rolex warranty. Anyone else see their local AD do this? |

I have seen this before with new old stock sold at discounted prices and without the Role warranth. I didn't find the deals to be much better than the trusted sellers here for current models.

I have seen tourneau sell Rolex watches that where purchased and then returned. The watch is as good as new, but you won't get the original Rolex warranty, mainly because they have already been filled out to the first buyer.

Thank you for posting this as I plan to go to Tysons and Tysons Galleria next weekend to visit the ADs. Is there a significant disadvantage to having the warranty through the store and not Rolex? Sorry for the stupid question but I'm new here and shopping for my first (pre-owned) Rolex.

Can't say for sure Nova Girl. I'll let the experts here chime in on that. Also please understand the models in the case were not the ones that exactly fly out othe cases. I've seen older two tone models, iced DayDate dial models etc. you will not see a Sub or SD in the case I'm pretty sure. There were no sport models when I looked numerous times.

The warranty doesn't stay with the watch if you have the paperwork?

The watch watch was probably sold before and traded in or returned. I just bought a 116264 Datejust that is eight years old. It was sold as new old stock, and I have the warranty card and two year full warranty.

Actually, this particular store does not take in any used products. They use a third party to buy any items a customer has that they want to trade!

It is amazing how close together those two different AD's are at Tyson's and Tyson's II. I thought at first it was the same AD with two locations but realized it was not. You would think that would be advantageous in trying to get a good price, just say I will go across the street.

With new old stock the price should reflect the retail when the watch first arrived. A watch that sits for years and the price is adjusted up for increases is not a deal at 25% off current prices. If they would do 25% of the price from when the watch first arrived is a different story and might be a deal.

This seems strange to me. Rolex warrants the watch not the date purchased. If it is truly new old stock then Rolex would honor the warranty. However if the watch was purchasedand registered and then returned and the warranty expired I can understand why the warranty is issued by the store and not Rolex. The confusion to me is that the store is representing that it is not a used watch but old stock. If that is the case you should certainly get a warranty by Rolex. In fact when the local authorized dealer here went out of business and lost its Rolex franchise we purchased a new old stock Datejust and had the warranty accepted by Rolex

Key here is the AD is just shoving slow moving / less desirable models in this discount case. It's possible some folks will be truly attracted to an old Date, Air King or other models... But to buy something here - just to have a "Rolex" - not a good idea IMO.

That's the part I don't understand. It only makes sense if the warranty card has been filled out so they are giving you their own 2 year warranty instead of the shorter period per the date on the card. But it seems to me that if you are buying a "new" watch from an AD it should be your name on a factory warranty card. Something doesn't make sense. The in-house warranty sounds very "Jomashop" for an authorized dealer. I'm guessing the original cards have been filled out for one reason or another, probably returned. Did all the watches still have stickers?
