Terrible and un professional flag marshalling, how they were not under waved flags after the first accident, to then let a recovery truck on without waved flags in a typhoon is beyond incompetent and sadly looks like it will have major impact on an incredibly talented future Ferrari driver. Even before the accident mates and I watching could not understand why no flags or instant safety car when Sutil crashed.

It was raining, but didn't look hard enough for a red flag at that point. Motorsport is dangerous. |

Adrian Sutil confirmed on Sky Sports F1 that there were waived yellows after his accident. I don't fully understand the ins and outs about why the helicopter wasn't used. I'm sure these things will all come out after a full FIA investigation has taken place. |

I would maybe say that the race should of been neutralised first with the safety car, before allowing that tractor/crane on. Because of the conditions.

I'm a Bianchi fan and I'm feeling pretty gutted at the moment.
Watched the race and I've been checking for updates on his condition ever since. I read he is now undergoing surgery and I'm hoping for the best. Maybe it's easy to say in retrospect, but I can't understand why, especially in wet conditions like today, the safety car wasn't immediately deployed when a recovery truck entered the circuit? |

Just saw this. Hitting that tractor can't be good. Obviously something went wrong.

It's being reported that Felipe Massa was screaming into his radio that the race should be stopped five laps before the Bianchi crash. On the other hand, Nikki Lauda was interviewed and basically said "Stuff happens. Racing is dangerous." There will be a lot of discussion in the coming week. Hoping for the best for Bianchi, though the brief descriptions of his injury and current surgery are not good.

Just seen the following on BBC website:
Jules Bianchi is out of surgery and breathing on his own after suffering a severe head injury in a crash at the Japanese Grand Prix. |

I take back my earlier comments does appear there were waved yellow flags, that said, pace car should have come out before ANY emergency vehicle went on the track in those conditions, major stuff up, hope he gets better, has not been a good year between Michael this and generally cars that dont make fans as happy as the past, and domination by one team. A few highlights including the two Daniels and Botas.

I see Andrea De Crasheris also killed himself overnight flying off his motor bike, I forgot to add the death of gentlemen Jack, certainly been a tough year.

Grrrrr...... F1 marshals were more concerned about finishing the number of laps within TV time than taking out pace car. This accident should have not happened.

The track had too much water, Massa was right in complaining. Not the first time a driver complained, race went on and something bad happened (Senna and others). Clearly the officials only care about one thing.
The helicopter could not be used because of the time of day, getting dark and weather was still not stable. The sad part is that usually takes something bad to happen unit F1 changes policy or actions. Not a great year for the sport. Prayers for Bianchi and family. |

Yes the track was getting wetter, yes there is a point where you red flag because of the wet, I think most drivers agreed they weren't at this point yet. F1 has a great safety record since senna, sure they will now look to improve procedures in wet weather and how cars are recovered/tractor design but don't think you can blame the officials, they were following normal procedure in removing Sutils car. |

Point made.
I do however believe that the drivers tend to have a better feel for conditions than do the officials. Someone with Massa's experience screaming (assumption) should be cause for concern. Perhaps driving on inter's is not good enough. We will never know because we don't race, at least I don't. Would hate to see F1 go backwards after much progress on the safety record. And yes, much progress since Senna in 94. That's all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I dont see the criticism going here. Things happens in racing. I dont see anything being done wrong in this situation.
1. F1 puts recovery vehicles on course under green conditions with a local yellow ALL THE TIME and they're good at it. 2. There was a waving yellow at the corner and should have been aware of it either having passed it once on the previous lap or by his pits notifying him. 3. Most, if not all the cars were still on inters at that time, there is no indication that it was too wet. Bianchi himself was on inters, as you can see with the green writing on the side. If he or Massa (who is a notorious whiner imo) felt it was too wet, then they should have put full wets on. Those that said it should not have happened are right, however, it was not the fault of the FIA or the promoters, it was an accident. Not to throw him under the bus and I hope that Bianchi does recover soon and is ok, but if there is any fault its on him for pushing too hard in conditions through yellow zone. Racing is dangerous, simple as that and F1 has a stellar record of safety since the horrible weekend when Barrichello was seriously injured, and Senna and Ratzenberger were killed. You cannot build an F1 car for a collision with a tractor. If anything, we'll likely see the practice of recovering cars without sending out a safety car. However, if that changes, we're going to see three to four full course yellows a race as usually there are several recoveries under green every weekend.

What bugs me is the severity of his accident. I had my self a very serious head injury when i was younger. It hits home for me, an accident like that. As hard headed and thick skulled the head can be, it is so very delicate. I really don't care about the politics, as this thread i take it was to think about Jules Bianchi rather than the marshals and the rules.
I do truly wish my best for him and that he makes a full recovery. I do feel bad about not giving him much support for the talent he has before and now only at this incident. I just started to pay attention to him.

Looks like his head (helmet) might have hit the metal part of that tractor. A horrible crash. Hope he will make it! I'm sure it's a "freak" accident, but makes one wonder... Wouldn't it be better to hit that crashed F1 car, than a 20 ton! Tractor!!!!

I am surprised that the safety car was not sent out immediately after Subtil's crash.
Prayers for Jules Bianchi.

My thoughts and prayers are with him. I was watching it live on NBCsports. Glad to hear he is breathing on his own.
