Glad to have found this forum. Looks like I'll have to continue reading on here.

Right now, after toying with the idea for two years, I am committed to purchasing my first Rolex.

The models I am deciding between are the SS GMT Master II Ceramic and the SS Explorer II w/ white face.

For the longest time I wanted a Panerai or IWC, but I just can't resist the idea of owning a Rolex as my first "nice" watch.

Hi from somewhere cold and wet (scotland), i am quite new here too- its a great forum full of genuine and friendly people. Personally i would choose the GMT II ceramic as it is a beautiful watch.

Yeah thanks, just got it last week. Really is a nice looking watch. Which one do you prefer out of the two you are deciding over- or as that th reason you came to the forum. Its always a tough choice but go for the one that feels right.

I was pretty convinced to buy the Explorer II until the GMT Master II Ceramic came out....since then I've just been trying to justify the price.

The price justification is the biggest hump, especially since you can find nice discounts on the Expy2.

Welcome. I was considering the SS Sub for awhile until I saw the GMTIIc at my AD. Once I saw the ceramic bezel, the rest was history. IF Rolex comes out with a ceramic Sub, that'll be my next Rolex purchase.

I'll keep reading up on things here and figure out how to proceed. Already found one member here, "Funlab", who' said he'd help me get my hands on a GMTIIC!

Btw, what is the difference between a standard member and a "Pledge"?

I recently bought an explorer II but I have not picked it up yet. I have to admit though that it will have to go along way to overpower the GMT IIC in my heart. It is the watch I wear the most. However.. if I didnt work in an office and was outside all day, I think I would pick the Explorer II as the first purchase.

you cannot go wrong with either watch. the Explorer II, IMHO, is a TON of watch. the GMTII-c is beautiful. For starters, I would go with the Explorer II, but you just can't err with either of those beauties.

Great choices! As Larry says, whether you buy the SS GMT Master II Ceramic or the SS Explorer II w/ white face, you'd get an absolute winner!

I would encourage you to get the GMT. Both are beautiful watches but the GMT is going to hold it's value better as the Explorer does not sell as well. I have the TT version and can attest that it is my favorite. it is such a beautiful timepiece and it has amazing accuracy. Here's a picture to tempt you;

Go with whatever feels right for you though. You're going to be wearing it for a long time.
