"Break In" Time After Servicing?
I recently received my 16710 back from service at RSC Tokyo. Its currently gaining almost 15 seconds a day. I was wondering if I should give it a few weeks to let everything "break in" or if this is something I should take back to my AD for regulation. I will be resting the watch crown up over night the next few nights as well while I sleep to see if this can help regulate it some.
What would you do? |

Mine always come back from RSC running about two or three seconds per day fast. I would take it back.

It may settle down a bit. From my actual experience, my new Day-Date was running +7/day off time.is After several days of wearing it, it is only +4/day. I'm not sure yours will settle to CSOC standards.

Would let the oils distribute and settle over a couple days, can always take it in after that if still running fast

Thank you everyone for your responses. I think I will hold off taking it back for a few weeks. I will keep it crown up when not wearing it, measure it once a week against an atomic clock, and see how it goes. If I cant get it right, Ill take it back to my AD (hopefully not for another 6 agonizing weeks!). Thank you all again.

You can check it everyday if you wish, or even more, but let the watch run for about a week and then divide by the days since it was set. My personal preference would be for my Rolex to return from RSC properly regulated, but since that didn't happen, give it some time. My 114270, 116200, and my 14060M all needed to be regulated within about a year after purchase, even though they were functioning within COSC standards at purchase. I have my local Rolex-certified watchmaker regulate my watches under warranty. They have done very well, especially the current one, who seems to have a special gift for precision.

There is no "break-in" time that will account for more than a second or two either way, nor does positioning account for more than a fraction of a second.
If you have fully wound it and it demonstrates the same behavior, take it back for proper regulation.

I just wanted to give an update. I decided to take it back to my AD and they sent it back to RSC Tokyo. After 4 weeks I received my watch back. It is at a consistent +2 seconds/day now and I am finally happy.
Thank you to everyone who gave me advice earlier. |
