Icon5 Would you make this trade?

PAM 512 for a 16570 (White)

Aesthetically, each have their appeal to me, and as such, I'm really struggling with this trade. I also currently have a 116710LN and a 116400V. My current reasoning:

PAM 512: Pros
  • Limited to 1,500 pieces
  • Purchased new from an AD a month ago
  • Smallest-ever OP in-house P.999 movement
  • Exposed case back

16570 (White): Pros
  • 3186 movement (same as my 116710LN), one of the greats imo
  • GMT function (useful for my work, albeit not totally necessary)
  • Arguably more robust service network and brand recognition

Any community input would be awesome. While I realize it will ultimately come down to what I want more, any additional reasoning would help!

Im not too educated when it comes to Pams but ive had the 16570 ( with a 3185) and the 216570. The 16570 is definitely one of the greats and you really cant go wrong. The only thing that some people dont like is the clasp. I take it you dont like the 216570 that much?

Honestly, I've always preferred the smaller size of the 16570. I have horribly small wrists. The 216570's orange accents are a bit youthful looking for me, even though I'm only 24, because I'm weird.

If you have really small wrist the 216570 may not look good on you. Its not weird to be conservative at any age!

I would go with the polar Exp2. I feel long term its a better choice along with more bang for the buck especially being a 3186 movement. Im not really feeling the direction panerai has gone into in the last few years. Im actually a new rolex convert and couldn't be more happier. Prior to owner my 1st rolex about 2 years ago I had about 4 Pams in my collection and eventually sold them off. They just didnt seem as special anymore as when I bought my pam000 back in 07'. Too many limited editions and even more special editions. It was just hard to keep up.

You already have the GMT, I'd keep the 512.

Not a PAM fan but they all look large to me so if you don't have big wrists then the Polar could be the answer although it is not small either.

I am starting to lean more forcefully towards the 16570. The 1,500 limited production count of the 512 initially was a huge point for me, but it seems that OP produces a ton of "limited editions" and "special editions" each year, greatly reducing the limited counts' perceived values to me...

That 3186 movement in the 16750 is just so solid.

They make PAM's in limited editions of 1,500 because the cannot sell more!

I am not a fan of PAM's but I believe that 16570 with a 3186 is a masterpiece

In the end, I decided to keep the 512 since it's in my name and limited. I think I'm just going to buy the 16570.

Thanks for the input everyone!
