Screw down change position?
Hello guys, I been having about 14-15 different Rolexes the last 2+ years or so. All of them are pretty spot on when it come down to the Crown postion. Everytime I unscrew it and screw it back it Always come to the same position it had Before.
However my 116718 GMT have like 3-4 different of the Crown aligment when I unscrew and screw it back. Is something loose? does your Rolex does the same thing as mine?

My Submariner 5512 does the same thing (2-3 different positions relatively close to eachother). My watchmaker says nothing to worry about as long as it screws down nice and firm and I have had it pressure tested also. However, I have read here that it should always be the same spot every time except a slight difference once the seals brake in.

Yeah, mine shifted a bit after service. When it came back it was perfectly aligned but after some "wear in" it cants a bit to the left. No big deal but I really wish it would have stayed centered. Oh well.....................

I am just chiming in but its a tube with threads and shouldn't it re seat itself pretty darn close every time upon hand tightening? How would it change positions?

The threads on the tube are fixed and the entry thread is in a position that will not change. The same for the crown, it has cut threads that do not move in relationship to the emblem.
Therefore, it is impossible for the crown and tube to engage at any different position. The only variable is the compression of the gasket and how tight you force it, or something bunched up underneath..

That is the thing, I was just at an AD yesterday to change a dial. I asked if everything is ok with my watch and he said the watch look fresh, no problem with it. Im so confused

As above I have found on all three of my BNIB watches the crown position has always been the same point in each individual watch, however over the first few months the position has moved slightly which I put down the the seal/gasket bedding in! Hence my feeling of bewilderment when some people post about I picked up a BNIB Rolex and make a big deal about the crown lining up!

FWIW, making sure the crown lines up a specific way would add a good bit to the cost of manufacturing since it would require additional hand fitting...
