Need opinion on ALS Lange 1

ALS owners, please help with this one.

I have a 7 1/2" wrist. Do you think I should go with the 38.5MM Lange 1 or the larger 41.5MM Grand Lange 1?

I understand this is a dress watch and should wear on the smaller side but the Lange 1 looks like it wears larger than 38.5MM, due to the thin bezel and clean dial and maybe sufficient. Or must I spend more for the larger Lange 1 for my wrist size?

I have the FP Journe Chronometre Bleu and although at 39MM, it wears larger due to large clean dial and it looks fine on my wrist.

It's a matter of personal preference. I have a 6.75" wrist and I think the Grand Lange fits me better. It's also thinner and has more wrist presence.

I would go with the grand personally but only you can decide.
Try, try and try again and only buy when you are completely sure, to avoid any expensive mistakes.

The only way to find out is to try it on and see what fits and looks best based on your personal preference. Also in my view I wouldn't categorize the Lange 1 as a pure dress watch.

However if you are on the fence and both look equally good/appropriate on your wrist I'd go with the 38.5mm. The price difference between the two is $10k retail for essentially the same watch with a slightly different movement to accommodate the larger case. You'll also get a slightly thinner profile as well going from 10mm to 8.8mm - but this size difference in my view does not justify the significant price difference. Just my two cents worth.

I'd personally go Grand Lange 1...then again I prefer a larger watch. What do you prefer?

Try it on!

I have a 21cm wrist and I'm happy to wear my standard size Lange 1 with no issues. I'm also happy wearing a 44mm Panerai as well.

Everyone's wrist has a different shape, so size is not always a true measure of fit.

A trip to an AD or Boutique is a really exciting experience - enjoy!

No Lange 1, but here's a Grand Lange 1 to compare.
As others have said, you really must try them both on and see for yourself. I prefer watches in the 40-42 mm range myself, but everyone is different.[ATTACH]548588

I know it's far from the best angle, sorry about that it was in the AD lighting.

Personally I've spent some time trying on the 38.5 L1 vs 41 GL 1 and greatly preferred the look of the GL1.

Also I have contemplated the 1815 which I prefer in 40 vs 38.5 as well.

Here is the 40 on me

And finally the timezone at 41.9

Good luck

Also, for those that prefer the Grand Lange 1, is there a big difference between the older version where the seconds subdial overlaps with the hour and mins dial (I actually kind of like this look more) vs. the newer version where the subdials are not touching (with the newly developed movement). Really what I am asking is if its worth the extra cost for the newer Grand Lange 1.

If you like the look of the older model, then by all means save yourself a boatload of cash.

I personally think it is a good looking watch, but the fact that it is a departure from the original design drives people nuts.

I greatly appreciate Lange making a movement specifically for the case, something many top tier manufactures have shown an inability, or rather desire, to do.

If you are talking to me Ken...

Tell me about it. It is a sensational piece. Very casual, just like I like 'em.

That said, I rarely travel. The look is spot on though. And the platinum, oh the platinum feels good

id go with the smaller 38.5 lange 1...my wrist is about 7inches, and the 39mm journe is probably the largest id go for a dressier watch.

Love this answer. I had planned on getting another FP Journe (Octa RDM Lune) but the ALS Lange 1 really won me over.

Thanks for the comparison shot. I am leaning towards the original size. I like the how the lugs look bigger on the smaller dial.

I just committed to buying one for next week, so I will be posting wrist shots soon. I went for the white gold / black dial version for the sportier look. I am just a cashier at a convenience store so can't pull off yellow or rose gold as easily dressed in t-shirts and jeans.

Congrats in advance. You're gonna love it!

But you forgot to ask "is it safe" wearing a Lange while working in a convenience store.

My customers have no idea what I am wearing. Its the beauty of working in the ghetto. I rotate between a Patek, FPJ, AP, JLC, and Rolex. The only watch they ever recognized was a Panerai ( but I no longer support the brand).
