Discontinued

Hi Guys, hope everyone is well. My watch has now been discontinued, what are your thoughts on this? Good, bad or indifferent? I absolutely love my watch and am a little surprised its been discontinued. Any ideas why this happens and if it will have much of an impact? Thanks in advance people.

Regards,

Adam

Is the model a secret or can you share it with me Adam?

I have a few discontinued models (6) and I don't think of it as a problem.

Oh no!
The last thing you want is a discontinued Rolex
The value is plummeting at this moment, but I'd be willing to do a clean trade for a current undiscontinuable Sub C date !

I've got a nine year old Air King for you. PM me your address and we can arrange for the trade.

Honestly, there would be little to no effect on the value of a model that was recently discontinued. Chances are the reason it was taken out of production is because of soft sales so the demand for the watch is likely not there. 75 years from now, who knows.

You've said it yourself. You LOVE it. You've bought it cos' you've loved it. That all that matters, really.

I wouldn't put much concern over what the if/else are. If I like something, it stays with me. I don't care even if it becomes a museum piece or a collectors'.
If your concern is about serviceability, it's a mechanical timepiece, rolex would take care of it, else there's always the independent. To add, it's just quite recently been discontinued, so not much reason to worry, really..

Enjoy it!

Thanks for the input so far people. I am not concerned about value or anything, I was more interested in why, when its such a wonderful timepiece. In a way I like the fact that its not available anymore, becomes a little more unique. :)

Its a nice watch but in the real world TT watches or diamond type watches are not thought of as being collectible whether discontinued or not.Main thing is you like your watch as to be unique doubtful,I would expect there is more than one it this world, so wear in in good health that's far more important.

That watch was replaced with the sunburst dial which doesn't have the diamond option yet....it is still available on the black dial (diamond option). I had a brand new in box one of these that was a V serial and traded it in at an AD a couple of weeks ago.....its not discontinued, the dial options changed. It is still a 116613

Last fall 2013, Rolex did discontinue all Submariners with diamond dials, both the black, and blue, for all models including the full gold watches.

Happy Birthday Adam! Beautiful Submariner!

My Y-series black bezel GMT-II was discontinued at least 5 years ago. One of our trusted sellers has the same watch on sale now for over 2x what I paid 12 years ago.

I don't happen to care, since that watch is my absolute favorite and gets about 95% of my wrist time. It's one watch I would never get rid of.

No worries at all.....the sunburst dial has the same effect as the hulk...if you look at the 16613 Blue sub pictures on line you will see that there is more of a patterned sheen or reflection from the light as opposed to the flatter blue on your dial.

Some people prefer the blue you have, others prefer the new...totally personal preference.

However I do think that the bezel color is different on the new one too to match the dial but I could be totally wrong on this one.

Here is a picture I stole for comparison

You bet....however, one day that might be a super collectible watch! No one knows but it was only produced for around 4-5 years I believe with that blue.

She sure is beautiful!

I love it! I have a feeling if you add diamonds to the sunburst it would be too much, although I could be wrong, will have to wait and see what rolex has in the pipeline in regards to adding diamonds to it.

If rolex did the sunburst dial with diamonds and I liked it even more, would I be able to have it installed into mine or would that be out of the question? Thanks again

An official RSC would not do it but if you were able to source the new dial, you could have a watchmaker install it on your existing model.
Personally not a fan of altering Rolex from their original state.
