My new Sub Date loses the same amount of time as well. From what I understand it is within the COSC specs. I have tried placing it crown up, crown down, face up, and face down at night and it still loses the same amount of time every day.

I love my watch also.

Welcome to TRF.

An initial loss is nothing to worry about. Give the watch about 6 to 8 weeks and it will reset itself. Try placing the watch crown UP at night on the dresser. It might help the watch gain.

According to the FAQ http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=8478
to regulate the watch to make it run faster - you lay it flat with the dial facing upwards!

Anything between -4 +6 is acceptable

Everything is ok with your watch

-4 to +6 is the COSC spec, not always acceptable, I would not stand a watch losing time, I can tolerate gaining a few secs a day but not losing.

But as somebody said...wait a while, give it a full wind (40 turns) and set it with crystal up during nigths and you will gain a little.

Well i prefer to gain too but in my case it's consistency

For example my watch has variations when it comes at losing time

Sometimes it may lose 1 second during the night and then not lose or gain any seconds for 13 days straght. Also sometimes the watch gains back the second lost. I am so confused with my watch

The good thing is that it lost 13 seconds in 90 days but it seems that positional tips during the night doesn't seem to affect it. I remember that it was affected by the positional tips only the first month of ownership when it was at a break in period

Welcome to TRF!

Nice to see that you live in BOO!

I like that!

Anyway, as suggested, "don't sweat it". Give your watch some time to settle in and adjusted to your personal wearing habits.

Please post a pic!

There are more accurate watches. SpringDrive by Seiko and a quartz watch. The problem with mechanical watches is that they are mechanical watches. That is the beauty of the watch and the curse as well.

See Previous Post: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...Rolex+Accuracy

This is about as good of a reflection of the fine timepiece you have as you're going to get. I think it is an excellent article.

Hi,
Interestingly, a lot of GMT C owners report that the watch run slow rather than fast. None of my rolexes never ran slow until I got my new GMT C. And I was the one who prefers the watch to run faster rather slower BUT I discovered some regulation process and it works great! Even though I have this watch for a week I discovered that it loses about 1,5-2 seconds in 24h. I was disappointed until I had to remove some scratches on my car and polish it. While polishing I moved my hand fairly fast and after I came home I realized the watch got couple seconds ahead. From that day if my watch is behind the time I shake it horizontally for about 10-15 seconds and here it goes! The watch instantly gains about 2 seconds! So far it is the best way to jump couple seconds ahead if you need to! And now I don't need to unscrew the crown and stop seconds as I used to do with my other fast running watches. I just shake it again and I never had to reset it since I bought (1 week) and the watch is dead on! Now I appreciate slow running watches and it's easier to regulate it that way!

Does the watch really reset itself as in gaining secs after 6 to 8 weeks? I gain about 1.5 secs a day and its barely my 2nd week. I've gained about 18secs in 10days and i went ahead and reset it again today but with -5secs so that it will catch up within 3 weeks or so.

None of my wathces didn't have any "break in" period. All of them worked absolutely the same from day one, can not tell about my new GMT C but will see if it will be different...So far it is exact the same for 7 days from day one, no differences and deviations.

X2 What JJ says is very true , my AD told me when I asked tis question, that you should give it a few weeks for the watch to loosen up a bit before it settles down.
Welcome to the forum, don't worry and enjoy your new watch.

The positional tips are no longer as hard and fast as they used to be. Plenty of posts in the recent past stating that Rolex guide is "old news." Improvements in watches now make this rest position thing to be somewhat a crap shoot. Read rate results in WatchTime etc to see what I mean.
Best approach is to experiment and see what works for the individual watch.
