If you think rolex is expensive what about panerai?
If you think recent price increase in Rolex has made it expensive but wait what about Panerai? The price increase for Panerai is even more, I think it's crazy. ETA movement and leather strap Panerai cost more than a Rolex???

Well demand drives the market and it drives the prices too
I am not amazed that much at what happens with panerai watches not to mention that panerai watches are really trendy

Panerai's are all over the board depending on if it is a limited addition or not. Prices are similar to Rolex, but a little more for what you get. They are very stylish, yet classic. They have their own design and that is what you are paying for! I think they only make like 50,000 pieces a year as compared with Rolex's 1,000,000 pieces per year
A Panerai GMT (88) on leather is about $6700 new. same on on a Ti/Steel bracelet, old sytle (161) is about $9100 new. A Panerai Sub (24) on rubber is about $6,300 new. A Panerai Chrono (250) on leather is about $8,100 new. Those are just a few (as there are many, many, many). Make it a limited edition (small batch count, different colors) and the price skyrockets!!!!!!!!!!! Those are all MSRP prices. If you buy from an AD, that is most likely what you'll pay. There is a BIG Grey market on them that will save you a few hundred bucks. They hold their value very well on the used market on par with Rolex. Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention it. The thing I don't like about them is that they are fairly easy to fake. They have ETA movements and the cases are very simple. I have seen models from HK that experts cannot distinguish as fakes. These fakes are only about $800!!!!

My favourite Panerai is the ten day power reserve GMT. Wow, that watch is stunning! AND expensive!

I know a guy who had his own business and he was soooooo busy. He had to do something to slow down. He decided to dramatically increase the rate at which he charged for his business. He told me a year later, the worst thing possible happened.......... They grew!!!!!!!

I'm a admitted PAM Fan...
But I think the prices are waaaaay out of whack for what you get. The historic (entry) models are between 4k and 4.5k...not too bad for a cool manual wind with history. However, the recent price increases are crazy IMHO!

Yup, hence the fakes that the experts can't even distinguish!

You should see that exact same watch with a blue dial! It's a unique piece, pink gold radiomir with a brown alligator strap and the dial in the most amazing deep, dark shade of blue you'll ever see! no offense to bluesy lovers out there auctioned off for a mere 44k euros

I truly find it hard to understand why someone can fall in love with Rolex and actively become hostile to other brands, but you see people who have little knowledge of watches do it here EVERY day. I will cease the negativity as I know it adds nothing to the discourse and won't change a thing here. Wow, that Sub is the ultimate watch !!! Amazing that your watch lost a half second in a decade. Congrats, you got a winner but that's easily accomplished by Rolex. Better? Out of my system now. |

We're cool.
But why the comment about ETA when that's not the complete picture on Panny? Do you know Panny has been making in-house movements for a few years? All of the watches we discuss, to include Rolex, are priced as luxury goods and hard to justify if you don't love them. |
