Suspension, for pant

Hello guys,

I have been wanting a pair of nice, well made suspended but i don't know where to look. I used to wear suspenders, but they were old military surplus, with hooks rather than clips or buttons. They works great, but OD green don't fit with glen plaid trousers, you know?

I have also refrained from suspenders, because none of my trousers have the buttons for suspenders, however talking to my local tailor at the store says they'll do it free of charge. So, that's great news. The only thing is that i don't know where or who to buy from suspenders. I don't have the body shape that usually says you should wear them, i like to sometimes wear my clothes without a belt, and suspenders would be the way to go.

What i am looking for is two suspenders. Either X, or Y cross back and have button loops for the pants. Black and brown. I am not sure if there are only nylon stretches, but a nice soft leather would be very nice and welcomed.

Please, if you guys know of or happen to know where i can look for these things, please share.

I believe quality ones are called braces, and they button to your pants. They are made of silk or other good fabrics. Suspenders are the elastic ones your grandpa might have worn, and have metal clips that hold them in place.

Stores like Ben Silver, J. Press, and Brooks Bothers would likely carry them.

Language is a funny thing. In the UK if you were to got out wearing pants and suspenders and everyone could see your fanny it's an entirely different matter.

If your looking for a casual set, I recommend Filson. I have a pair and they are exceedingly durable.

You can find nice suspenders/braces for dressier slacks at your local Jos A. Bank or Men's Wearhouse store or online at their websites. T.M. Lewin and/or Charles Tyrwhitt from London will also have them on their websites. They're easy to find in any multitude of color or pattern. Elastic ones with clips for your jeans you can find at any hardware store. Happy hunting!

Yes it is. Personally i refer to things like this as trousers and knitwear, things like that but the people i know get crossed up when i don't use the common word. So, do people go running around in pants and suspenders in the UK?

Yes, i have Filson items and they're great, but the seem a bit too rugged. I'm not sure if my words are correct, but the seem to much for what i wear daily. I wear slacks, a shirt and no tie and something durably built like Filson wold work perfectly, but might be out of place. Personal preference i guess, and perhaps i'll try them. I've bought stuff before and loved it, maybe i'll do it again.

Well, this is an area I'm an expert in, having dozens of pairs of "braces". There's only one truly premium brand, Trafalgar.

I own dozens of pairs of the limited edition silk ones, great conversation pieces and people only see them when you want them to as I wear them with a suit and under a jacket....

You are damn right there about the English language, any talk about pants, suspenders and fannys will mean something very different to Brits.
I had to double read the OP to make sure he wasn't talking about cross-dressing.

I own around 30 pairs of braces, but only two pair, are ever in circulation. Both are very dark blue, one with tan hardware, and one with black hardware. Friends/family have given me braces over the years, seeing me wear them, but they just go into a box, in the closet. Braces will hold your trousers on your waist instead of on your hips, when wearing a belt. If adjusted properly, this is much more comfortable and will keep your trousers from riding down. If/when they grow on you, look for trousers without belt loops or have them removed, when you purchase them. It is a much cleaner look. I have a number of very nice dress belts that I've never worn. Wearing a belt, isn't as comfortable. Good luck and have fun in your pursuit.

Switching from belts to braces was one of the best decisions I've made apparel wise. I'll never go back to wearing belts with anything other than my Dockers.

I feel the similar. Belts have their use, but sometimes i just don't want to wear a belt.
