Yes Jocke, I was following that auction live too. Oh my........those prices were huge, but it was expected that there was going to be some pretty extordinary prices paid on some lots.
However, some of those lots, in particular the 1675's with B&P's that fetched in excess of US$15k and 20k Just makes me think if there was some "funny business". Even with the rare models ie. PPDRSD mkI. It has been said (not me) that some previous Antiquorum (and others, Christies etc) auctions were, how-you-say, a bit dodgy, ie. vendors (mostly dealers) working in groups bidding against and each other (deliberately) and buying back there own and each others stock at huge prices, in turn setting new higher 'bench-marks', which of course are passed on to their customers. It has also been said that the auction houses themselves have put in dummy bids to drive up the market as well as increase their commissions. John. |
