Buying my 1st Sub....
So it has been a long time coming but I've decided it's time to get my dream watch. Ive been collecting affordables for years and have bought, sold and flipped watches to finally be able to afford the only watch I've ever really wanted.
The Rolex Submariner 14060 is the watch that made me love watches. But now that I am able to finally afford one I am thinking I should go 114060. I'm looking for some reassurance that I am making the right choice. I've got some friends that say buy the 14060 "that's the one you always wanted" but I have other friends saying buy the 114060 "buy new, you will have it forever and all of its history will be on your wrist" plus it's a better built watch. So what say you TRF... I think I've decided 114060 am I doing the right thing? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It's a beautiful piece... I think you're making the right decision considering all the upgrades to the newer model. Maxi dial, ceramic bezel, bracelet and glidelock. Dont forget to post pics!

All of the nice upgrades (especially the clasp) add up to a great package. Buy new and make your own history

The no date sub is a great watch to start with!
Believe me, when you get your first, it will be the first of many ;) |

Great choice! 114060 is one of the best and most popular Rolex there is.

Try them both on. You may prefer the older model. They wear differently due to the shape, hollow end links on the older model etc.
The new watch has the engraved rehaut. I'm not a fan of this on a Sub, but you may like it. Some folks are really taken by the new clasp. See if you are. Dial wise the new sub has the large plots. Do you prefer large to the smaller ones of old? Good luck! |

To me the cyclops really makes the Sub, but my brained is wired differently (something my wife and therapist agree on).

I went through the same process earlier this year. Sold, traded, etc., thought I
I was ready to buy the white faced ExplorerII. Went to a local AD to enforce my selection. Came out wanting the Sub. Date or no date? Another decision? 14060 or 114060. Went back to "look" again and finally decided on the newer model. Bought from David SW here on TRF and never regretted my decision. My advice, try them all, you will know which one is for you. Good luck and enjoy the journey. |

Up to you.
The 114060 has a distinctly better bracelet (clasp and solid end links). But besides that, the other differences are aesthetic. Some prefer the new look (maxi dial, maxi case, shiny ceramic bezel). Some prefer the old look. |

I'd go for the 114060, can't go wrong with the updates.

Hi this is my first post on here although I've been lurking around for a couple of months. I have a 114060 on order with my local AD. I've spent countless hours doing my research as it's a big purchase for me. Can't wait....should be here by the end of the month.

Definitely 114060, you will have the glidelock clasp and that changes your life, it's marvelous...

Save yourself some money now and get the 114060. When I was buying my first I always wanted a 16613. I considered the 116613 but talked myself out of it because the 16613 was one I always wanted. Bought the 16613 and the 116613 was on my mind for over a year before I finally traded up to it.

at this point, i would either go new or, if i wanted pre-ceramic, i would go for an older 2-line version. good luck and pre-congrats on whatever you choose.

Try them on, I think they looks different. I prefer the curves of the older model, but it may not make much of a difference to you.

Who says newer is an upgrade, classics are classics for a reason. But I'm strange, I'd also rather have a 308/328 or 348 Ferrari compared to a new one..

I'm in the exact same situation as you. Almost ready to buy my new submariner and will be going for 114060. The upgrades are deff worth having.....ceramic bezel (scratch resistant, doesn't fade away, and corrosion resistant) plus the glidelock technology which allow you to size the watch the way you want without needing any tools (best thing ever) plus and plus and plus.
I mean, when Rolex makes updates, they are for a reason, and definitely a good one! I'm going for the new one..I think you should too! |
